I would be happy with an uncapped service if it offered me reasonable access to the news servers after 6pm and before 7 am weekdays and all weekend... If this was not available I would not have much need for uncapped.

Ya so would you consider 14 gb downloaded from 6 last night until 10 this morning poor or what? You just want to be right about that sticking with afrihost. I don't care what uncapped works and what does not atleast we have access to cheapish internet :D. My life does not revolve around my horse being right

The only thing annoying me is the local pings at the moment. The reason afrihost got kicked so badly was because they handled the situation very poorly lance something that won't sink into your brain.

Just maybe it will sink in: Here it is still on their website

4096 kbps line speed*
Unlimited Data*
Never get Capped
Always On ADSL
No Contracts
Flat Monthly Price
Spam & Virus Filter

Unlimited data they still say, guess lying to consumers is fine with you.

Well for R899 per month you can get a product way better than what you currently used and getting on a 384kbps line but how much you currently paying?? I have no idea how the 384kbps lines perform, either Afrihosts or Mwebs but I shudder at the thought of 30GB's of queued torrents downloading at 10-15kbps... It's so uncivilized, 384kbps is... Line rentals seriously need to come down so that all can enjoy the fruits of 4/8/10mbps...

I currently comfortably do my 30Gbs on the news servers on my 384k line using local only without trying. This is more than enough for me. I don't need things immediately and am quite happy to wait overnight. Any more and I'd really just be downloading because I can, or feel the need to.

I am paying about R500 for that in total. So uncapped would only appeal to me because I can actually get it for cheaper and not have to top up on occasion, however, if it makes the news servers unusable I would really not be interested. I don't sit watching plenty of YouTube etc. I browse (which I guess probably uses at most 1Gb per month), upload photos for family (perhaps another 1Gb at most). It will be nice to stream music without worrying about my cap but other than this I like being able to download something when I want it.

Funny I had no problems with Afrihost while I was subscribed, which was 23rd March-31st March. Line always ran at 400+kbps, regardless of what I was downloading.

I cancelled as I require a 120-150GB solution and their product is not suitable considering incremental throttling every 30GB's.

They've succumb to peer group pressure and pressures of the market place and launched an unsustainable product...

Cybersmart on the other hand have not jumped in the fray and have probably lost quite a few customers (myself included) but their reputation is still in tact and they still offering a solid product at further reduced rates...

Yup they should have done testing instead of being pushed into a corner and just releasing it, still they could have handled it better and they should remove the unlimited data they have on their 4 meg uncapped accounts which they still have not done.

Sometimes you far too sensible. I understand and appreciate what you saying. I had the misfortune of using a 384kbps at my store and it's painful, honestly painful. 150MB's per hour is horrendous. What takes you an hour to download takes me 6 minutes to download. I'm sorry but 384 is archaic...

Ha ha I do totally agree that having a full movie in 30 minutes would be nice but still a little unnecessary for me. I have stuff on disk to watch already. If something else comes along I don't need to watch it there and then. It can download and be watched the next night or on the weekend ;) I know we are not just talking about movies but the same applies to everything. If I find a program I like I can just use it tomorrow. Maybe it is just a Durban-time thing... no hurry man. :D

No lance it comes more from having the line, when i had 384 everything was cool but since i got 4 meg i could not imagine 384 speed :D. Waiting for stuff is not all that bad. Downloading a 7gb hd movie does not exactly take a couple hours we have to wait for stuff as well.

Wow i rebooted my router and my pings are low.

Must reboot it every night i reckon :D.

@ Lancelot.. Fair emuff... But for an extra R400 you effectively getting 10 X the speed, that's a disparity that you've always been at pains to point out. Time to take advantage!!! Gees I'm worse than your wife these days... Trying to convince you to spend spend spend...

OFF TOPIC: Got the wireless dongle for the Mede8er and it works pretty damn well. Streaming from the laptop is not so effective with regards 1080P material but from the desktop (wired connection to wireless router) it works flawlessly...

MWEB is very, very fast. I'm genuinely surprised they could give us such a service. Very impressed. Running between 300KB/sec and 450KB/sec here. :) You should switch to MWEB.

And it's not just about the downloads, it's web pages rendering instantly, 5mb emails sending and receiving without crashing servers, youtube 720p videos streaming instantly and effortlessly, remote surveillance footage rendering in almost realtime... So many aspects to it. It changes the way you approach and use the internet...

@ Lancelot, what do you do if the Mrs wants to browse and you downloading episodes? Soon the lightie going to be streaming Cbeebies vids too. You can't do all that simultaneously on a 384k line...

+1, actually waiting for something to break/give/bubble burst...

Ha ha, yes you are much worse than her. She is trying to stop me from spending! She just wants the dishwasher! :)

As stated I am not using anyone at the moment. Keeping an eye on who appeals to me.

The thing is I am house sitting a friend's place at the moment and he has a 4Mb line. I still did a few speed tests to make sure as I was seriously not noticing much of a difference when browsing etc. Yes, obviously I had no buffering issues on YouTube but with webpage loads it was not visibly quicker. I was expecting to be wowed. I obviously have not done many downloads as he is on a capped account.

You already got 2... dishwashers/kids...

Okay, well I dumped a very good repoire with Laurie and almost 3 years with Cybersmart for Mweb and touch on wood, thus far I have no regrets. It is still very, very, very early days though, but I must say every aspect, from signing up, to support, to using the product has been simply stunning. I did an online application for my store for the 4mb line and had log in details smsed to me literally 12 minutes after hitting the submit button. I'm so impressed with Mweb thus far!!!!

Let me guess, he is using IE7 and you using Chrome/FF...??
