@Mweb Operations: Sent you a PM. Please check whats going on with my account. Really appreciate it.

I too am getting Gatvol of MWEB's constant throttling. on a 4Mb/s line and cannot average more than 140kb/s on P2P
When I first signed up in May, I was able to hit 360Mb/s constantly on the weekends. If I switch over to my Is account, the download speed instantaneously jumps up to 350 Mb/s+.
MWEB ops, can you please explain what is going on here?

Jees.... you really must have an awesome line to be getting 360Mb/s......

As for the throttling, if its irritating you, you are welcome to go to an IS uncapped account which will effectively cap you at some ridiculous figure...

Man you people can moan! Go for a capped package if you want full speed all the time!

Seriously, get knotted. It's this "it's ok i will pay for a 4Mb service but accept 512" attitude from idiots like you that allow them to get away with crap like this.

+1!!!! Such mentality is what will get us stuck behind with crappy telecommunication and high bills because "It's ok, we are in Africa". No, let us keep the pressure on these rich companies and demand better service and fair prices.

Agreed, if an ISP is not offering 4mbit service, then they can't be advertising it as such. I wouldn't be surprised if these issues are going to be some of the first to be contested when the new Consumer Protection Act comes into effect (because overselling and inaccurate advertising are some of the practices that are forbidden).

However, I find that for many things I am capable of getting full 4mbit speeds (just today Steam was flying along at a full 4mbits). So it's not like they're being completely dishonest. It's very infrequent where speed is my main problem, and when it is (P2P and the like) they're often limited to things I don't need to have immediately and can therefore put up with them taking longer to download or be accessed.

It's when day-to-day performance on "average" services is very poor, that's something they would need to be held to task for.

@Mweb.

My ping has now shotup from a norm 30ms to 156ms to saix sa. Anything happening in Durban?

You are not alone--I am also expereincing this since early this morning. Here is my speedtest:

@MWEB Operations: Can you shed some light into this? I have been patiently waiting on another threat for a response. Thanks.

im getting a ping of 150ms, lagging on battle.net and COD:MW2 games.

this is very weird considering I never have problems at night.

Im in CPT

EDIT: A friend told me to remove the word "dsl" from your router username. My ping has returned to normal after doing this. Just a coincedence?

Nothing that we're aware of kosmik - if you run a tracert can you see where the increase is taking place?

Hi Smiley - can you provide me with the tracert results as well please.

Something is broken. As mentioned changing your username to @mweb.co.za instead of @dslmweb.co.za will workaround the problem for the time being.

Code:

Mweb is bad atm to the saix BC2 servers. Myself and another clan mate on 4mb uncapped accounts are getting 200 plus pings. Both of us have switched to saix accounts and our pings are back to around 100 in game. Suprising to get such bad performance out of mweb on a sunday evening.

Hi Smiley

This result looks normal to me - you won't get responses beyond the tiscali-gw hop due to blocked icmp traffic. Can you rather do a trace to the destination server you are experiencing latency problems to.

Thanks
MWEB Operations
