NNTP, was fine when I left for work at 7am. Probably dead like all the others now

Thats what confuses me! Some people seem to get great speeds, while others get really cr@ppy speeds. Have they put 'the others' into a special shaping group, or is it just due to problems? Its almost like I've been put on their 1Mbps package - for the past (goes and checks traffic graphs) week and a half I've never got more than 100Kbps.

I was registered with Astraweb for my news downloads, untill they started to shape it. Now I subscribed to a less common news service which is possibly not shaped yet, thus getting my fullspeed. Same for Hotfile, had fullspeed untill they started shaping. Seeing that lots of people having issues now, mine might be degraded as well. Currently at work so can't check.

Same here, but I am still using RS and HF as they host stuff I cant find anywhere else.

Yeah but I did speed tests last night while getting 8 and 9kb/s through RS & HF premium and got the following results:

How is it possible to get good speeds via speed tests and crawling with certain downloads?
I've told MWeb that they're definitely shaping or throttling RS & HF stuff and I want an explanation. I'm fed up with this ****

I am now Gat-Vol

I am paying R899 a month for my 4 Meg connection and I am getting maybe the performance of a 384k line.. Mweb I am tired of waiting and the silence from them is now deafening... It been weeks since my line even smelt full speed, not even my Linux updates come down at full speed anymore and that is http.

Sorry for ranting.. but I needed this..

Just popped in to the Openweb thread and MrBeep is there with feedback and solving problems.

So far its been real quiet from Mweb. Is it time to jump ship?

Pretty good results you got there.

You can PM the Mweb rep here with your account number, they can maybe assist you with slow speeds. Not sure what they do on their side. Try rebooting your router to get a new IP. That sometimes worked for me

I'm guessing there is not much MWEB Ops can really say that has not been said before, i.e. They are still busy with their upgrade thing, and not much can be done to help people until it is finished.
As for jumping ship, better the devil you know, than the one you don't. I think it is still worth giving MWEB the benifit of the doubt, for the time baing at least.

Mine just dropped for about 10 mins - back up again. HTTP speeds have improved tenfold - I can now download a file off mirror.ac.za as full speed!!! NNTP is still shaped but its too be expected during the day - will see tonight when they remove shaping. Could it be fixed?

Was just ranting :) I'll stick with them for the time being. I'm a lot happier now that my HTTP traffic has just magically fixed itself after a week and a half and is now a lot faster.

Hi all, we have experienced some issues with some of our IP blocks since yesterday. This has now been resolved however some of you might still be connected with an affected IP. You can try rebooting you router but this does not guarantee you getting assigned a new IP, our engineers are working on a way to resolve this. The other method of being assured of a new IP is by swapping realms on your connection, you can switch to either @dslmweb.co.za or @mweb.co.za

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. Explains why my http is suddenly rocking. I lost connection for 10 mins or so and must have gotten a new IP. nntp now also seems to be improving.

Thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunately my NNTP speeds are still drifting around 0.5 kBps to 5 kBps. Speedtest seems fine for a 512 package, and HTTP speeds also seem fine.
I've change my username as suggested, but has no effect. Tested NNTP with my WA account, and it runs at normal speeds, so not a problem on my side.

Any advice?

getting 130KB/s on astraweb (4meg account)

I'll switch on my router now (been off since 1am) and see how things are. If the connection is good then I will continue to say good things about Mweb. If it sucks I'm adding Mweb to my troll topics. Those of you that have seen me hate on intel, vw, apple, blackberry and more will know why I am unofficially known as the "resident troll".

So Mweb, don't give me a crap connection, its not worth it. Trust me.

Didn't you have the title custom troll? What happened?
