MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

You're such a tool its beyond belief. Those news providers have more bandwidth than you can even imagine. Not once on my news provider has my speeds dropped under 330kB/s (my line syncs at 3mb)
Are you using the same Mweb news server that everyone is complaining about ? That is amazing - seriously - doing 330KB/s is very impressive!

I can only manage about 50kb/s at the moment :

Spot on

Amazing how the news servers like Astraweb are "only swamped" when you use an MWEB acccount.

Apparently Rouxenator considers 20KB/s 'broadband' - strangely, I'm getting just over 250% more than that during the day from these inefficient newsgroups.

Did i say i was chump? i said "my news provider" not mweb. Your statement you made was broad insinuating all news providers have next to no bandwidth to provider the content.

Oh - those are not the Mweb news servers then? I thought so. Did I mention I am not paying a cent for my downloads?
Sorry, by bad for not spelling it out, it was implied with the line : "Just because Mweb is not willing to splash out thousands on bigger pipes and better hardware for their news server."

About the 20kb/s thing, its now up to 50kb/s since my Pando downloads are finishing. Still, considering that we are on the cheapest uncapped accounts you really have no reason to complain about slow P2P during office hours.
There are business account users and internet addict account users that pay lots more than we do and they deserve the higher speeds in the day time - not us.

Forgot you were put in place to decide what we should get in return for our money, oh, and exactly what internet services we can and cannot use

So what about the dudes that are paying R2500 a month and not R800 like you and me?
Should they have their speeds reduced just so that you can have the same speed as they do?
Would you be happy with that if you were one of them?

You are beginning to look like a bandwidth communist - they are lower on the food chain than trolls like me.

Look, i'm not happy with the speeds I get of news or torrents. I think is a bs story that people don't use news and therefore they not upgrading it. Perhaps someone can help me find this out: MWEB caches quite a bit of HTTP content, so that we can fetch it locally right? Surely by now thats possible on torrents too?

Oh yes because 40R is really going to break the bank... haha

Its quite simple - but you probably wouldn't get it - I'm paying for a broadband service, I'm not getting it.

Just in case you haven't realised, according to your own posts you are downloading at close to line speed by downloading over HTTP - unlike you - I don't go out of my way to abuse the line.

I'm starting to think that the slows speeds (after hours) are rather related to MWEB's international link capacity, more than a specific type of download. Whether it is so or not I have no idea, but if it is so I think we can look forward to some improvement after their next international link upgrade. Here's hoping :)

In your case not - you get good value for money. But I fail to see why Mweb should spend money on their news servers when they can spend it on something better that will not just be for the benefit of claytard pirates using inefficient technology.

zoh my gawd....

1) You are paying for a SHAPED broadband service - they do have UNSHAPED broadband services as well, but they cost a lot more. If you want to be cheap like me then be happy with what you get

2)Your SHAPED broadband service makes it very clear that it shapes certain high usage services. It does not shape everything, just high usage services - like torrents, news, rapidshare and more.

If you are lucky/smart enough to use services that are not seen as high volume destinations then you will benefit from full line speed.

Only if you are using bypass mechanisms for usage services - like torrents, news, rapidshare and more - are you abusing the account.

Dammit Gumby, don't make me say it.

So very sad....

MWEB have clearly stated that if you download from a source that is not shaped - and it runs at near full line speed - it is considered abuse.

You tried that one before and many people pointed out you are wrong. Deal with it.

Really? And who/where are these people, I in-fact pointed to a post where MWEB explicitly states it in black and white (or blue and black in the case of MyBB) - you really are clueless.

I had/have no problems on P2P, currently it is doing about 20kb/s and my HTTP is fullspeed.

EDIT :
News servers are no so much being shaped as they are being swamped by people that fail to understand their inefficiencies.
Just because Mweb is not willing to splash out thousands on bigger pipes and better hardware for their news server does not mean they are shaping it.
They should rather spend it on more international capacity for the rest of us normal folks that use HTTP and P2P.

When we say Astraweb, then we are not referring to Mweb's news server. Astraweb is paid for and runs at full line speed.

The point really is this: it used to run at full line speed after hours before the "upgrade". Since the upgrade it still runs at full line speed for maybe 50% of Astraweb users, and for the other 50% it runs at less than 10% of the speed before.

There is a problem with Mweb, they refuse to acknowledge there is a problem, they don't know what the problem is, and they don't know how to fix it.

im also getting really fed up with mweb now. for the 1st 2 months i had no complaints but these days, speeds are alwas bad.. average speeds of 20kbps no matter what im downloading, no matter what the source, no matter what time. Ive noticed that for torrents my speeds are almost non existant after hours. today, it also seems like im having problems with regular browsing.. pages taking ages to load.. even photos on facebook take a min or so to load. i have a 4meg account and my speeds are consistantly worse than that of a 384 account. you know ultimately the problem is that i cant seems to download enough with this account to get value out of it. i could download more, faster, and more less money with a capped account, and if i dont see an improvement soon, thats exactly what im going to do.

Didn't MWEB state in various threads that downloading from unshaped sources at full line speed is considered bypassing shaping?

Hahaha. Thats must be the most retarded idea I heard all day.

If the source is unshaped then there is no shaping to bypass. And if there were shaping to bypass then clearly its not an unshaped source.

F* you Gumby.

Just a reminder to all those unhappy users, there is a calendar month notice period.

I would suggest everyone cancels now before the end of the month so that it expires end November.

Maybe they get the message and fix it before then. You can always cancel the cancellation before then if you want to stay with them.

Don't be a typical South African sucker consumer. Stand up for your rights!
