Astroweb.. 4 meg Line running at an amazing 10kb a second... Last weekend I was running at 250k at this time...
Still have that problem Mweb... it is now after hours...
Hi fbman
We are currently looking into this.
Kind Regards
MWEB Operations
guys, how do i check my data usage on the mweb site ?
before when i logged into MyAccount, the info was easy to find but now when i login I get sent to the products and pricing page.
please help, i want to make sure i don' t get a all from mweb about my usage!
Apparently the new after business hours is 2am.
You know, because businesses need lots of http at 2 in the morning.
My problem is simple, when the account goes to unshaped the http is never affected.
Why shape p2p in the first place when it makes no difference to performance when it's switched on?
Mweb advises against leaving downloads on at night yet we only get unshaped at 2am in the morning.
When the upgrades were completed, everything was ace. one week down the line and it's back to shapenet.
Question for Mweb: Is this a temporary problem or is this the way the network is now being run?
"Sufficient bandwidth must be kept in reserve for priority traffic based on usage trends.
Priority traffic must not be impacted by the load which aggressive P2P protocols places on network equipment. Allowing too much P2P traffic has a direct impact on latency and other network performance factors and as I have said before a balance must be struck in this regard."
There is no massive shortage in bandwidth, when P2P is given equal priority over other protocols (ie After 2AM) there is no measurable slowdown on general services at all.
This leads me to the conclusion that Mweb simply does not want people to use too much data as it might implicate a lower profit margin per uncapped account.
If there were truely a shortage of bandwidth, then we would expect to see a slow down of all services when P2P is given equal priority over other protocols.
And if this were true, then why is mweb selling us 4MB uncapped accounts when there simply isn't 4MB to go around?
I have contacted MR Beep from Openweb as I have seen a lot of compliments from his recent users with regards to P2P protocols.
I'm sorry mweb but 80kb/s is simply not 4Mb/s, it's now 10:21PM ON A SATURDAY AND WE'RE STILL SHAPED!
Watch, at 2AM suddenly everything speeds up to a super 2mb/s (not even 4mb anymore like it used to be) and NOTHING will be affected by the priority shift.
When I signed up with Mweb, p2p was great. 400kb/s after 7pm. 180kb/s after 7am. Now it's 40kb/s before 2am. and 5 hours from 2am to 7am of HALF speed 200kb/s.
This simply isn't the service that I signed up with.
And please can you FINALLY address the NEWS SERVER ISSUE?

@Will - I see your points, could you also clarify the position of the news servers? We were told one thing during the upgrade, then a completely different thing after.
Will, this is what I have been trying to explain to them all this week - but all I got was being labeled a troll because I am not part of their angry mob. It seems logic and reasoning is not what they are after and the best advice I have is to ignore them when they mention the words "news server" or the protocol NNTP - else things get ugly. The MWEB news server was never mentioned as part of what what was going to be upgraded. The problem with providing a free news feed capable of carrying and distributing large binaries at high speeds (something that NNTP was never designed for in the first place). Is that the investment in hardware simply isn't justifiable and there isn't sufficient incentive in terms of bandwidth saving to offset this. I've been told that currently the server does provide a reasonable experience considering that it's not a paid for feed. I've also heard that some people reporting problems with this were actually found to be using incorrect DNS settings that were preventing them from connecting to it - have you checked this?
If you have a look at some of the speed graphs I posted this week you will see there has been a massive improvement. How come then MWEB claimed there would be improvements after the upgrade![]()
