Thanks Rouxenator :)

@xrapidx THere was a lot of general discussion about the performance of P2P and related activities leading up to the upgrades. If at any point someone gave you a response which indicated that upgrades to the MWEB news server were part of this plan then we apologize for the confusion. It was certainly never included in any of the official statements we made about the work being done.

My Mweb experience

I have 384kbs Telkom line
uncapped Mweb 384kbs;

I have had Mweb for a month now, my experience is as follows,

P2P has never gone over 5kbs/s during the day, a peek speed of (not average speed) 16kbs.

Normal browsing very slow day and night all week and all month.

All in all if someone were to ask me if MWeb uncapped is worth it, i would say not at all.

Has it been a fun enjoyable experience, no

Time to try someone else.

I mainly make use of a paid NNTP service (Supernews) with the occassional combo with the MWEB news server (when retention allows). Although transfer rates might look slow at a given point in time, I have managed to get an average of approx. 20 gigs per week. For this I pay MWEB R 300.00 / month, which given the internet situation in SA, is a fair price IMHO. Broadly speaking I can look forward to 80 gig / month @ R 3.75/gig. I would have preferred a tally of 200 gig / month :) however R 3.75/gig is nothing to frown about.

I can only hope the service improves with time, but for now (after much frustration) I am happy and made peace with the facts. Thank you MWEB for the oppertunity to show Telkom how the internet can be enjoyed :)

PS: I mainly only do my stuff from around 17h00 to 08h00 (if that matters to anyone).

Stallon, how much has your total usage been for the month?

I know of people getting 40GB a month on 384 Mweb Uncapped accounts and if you look at it that way it is definitely worth it. Sure, if the account was unshaped they would have done 100GB but considering the price they pay its still a very sweet deal if you only manage 40GB.

I have managed to get 20gig, for the last month.

But the point is normal browsing is slow and painfull.

If you take the WebAfrica Data5 package you will get 22GB of data for R980. Here on Mweb you are only paying R220 but you can go unshaped for R500 and then you will get a lot more.

iv been getting 350-410 since yesterday night on torrents, had rubbish browsing speed during the day though.... torrents still motoring along at 350kbs now..... must add to my Q now to keep it running till tomorro morning :D awesome stuff mweb.

Thanks MFour.

As you say when you put it in the rands and cents perspective there certainly is nothing to frown about :)

Hi Stallon

I have tested your line and it looks like you are possibly connecting through a mini DSLAM. As your line is not with us we do not have access to your line, please log a line fault with Telkom and let me have the ref and I can see what I can do from my side.

Kind regards
MWEB Operations

1 torrent running, 157 seeds, 185 peers, been getting 200kB/s for the past 8 hours - totally happy considering the price

Hi Will

Can you please look at the Facebook application login please. The app seems to load fine but as soon as you start it slows down allot.

Edit: sorry it was just my browser .. sorry

Will, this is what I have been trying to explain to them all this week - but all I got was being labeled a troll because I am not part of their angry mob. It seems logic and reasoning is not what they are after and the best advice I have is to ignore them when they mention the words "news server" or the protocol NNTP - else things get ugly.

If you have a look at some of the speed graphs I posted this week you will see there has been a massive improvement.

Well done with the upgrade Mweb - I am very happy with the performance I am getting.

NVM - I'm just not going to feed you anymore.

I'm talking about general newsgroup performance - not MWEBs news servers.

i am a previous user of this product. but decided that i want my 4Mbps line to work as it should at anytime. So I moved to Openweb Gold. A premium compared to this account.

But what I know is that even during business hours I am getting 350KB/s+ from international news servers.

it feels exactly the way the internet should be at 4Mbps.

I'm thinking about going for their Gold account, I've heard so many good things from their gold users.
How long have you been using their service milomak?

Lol Gconnect sells 62GB for R899.00 If you're gona justify pricing at least use a competant competitor.

Bloody hell my MWEB 4mb uncapped is bloody slow! wtf have they done again. It's taken me an hour to download anti virus updates and its still not done.

I am crawling on http all weekend, p2p seems to usual 50% line saga, when will this nightmare end ...
