MWEB Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

21:30 at night, my usage for the month is under 10GB on uncapped 384k yet I'm being shaped to eff and back with torrents. 2.9KB/s PEAK, with average being 0.4KB/s. WTF Mweb!

Right... I need to add my 5 Cents here...
I moved from MWEB to OpenWeb a little while ago. I still owed them R208.65 which, as I found out today, was handed over to ITC Business Administrators faster than 21mb/s... Anyway, I was not aware of the hand over and duly paid MWEB the R208,65 on the 1st but got a letter, dated the 8th, from ITC BA today saying I owed R273,07..? I phoned ITC to query and sent them a copy of my proof of payment...
Case closed... Not exactly...
Ten minutes after sending the mail I got an SMS from ITC BA saying they were about to advise MWEB to apply for judgement..!
I called ITC BA and was told there was a balance for legal fees... I should contact MWEB to sort it out. I called MWEB who then told me that given the timing, they'd handed me over on the 26th of last month and the letter was dated the 8th of this month, I would not be liable... UNLESS... unless that is, if ITC BA had attempted to contact me between the 26th and the 1st when payment was made... in which case I'd have to pay.
The ITC BA claim to have sent me two SMSs... I never got them and I'm pretty sure I would have noticed an SMS from the ITC... I don't know anyone who wouldn't...
Anyway, I figured I couldn't beat them and offered to settle the difference of R64,42 straight away... This it turns out was NOT acceptable... During the conversation, the ITC call centre agent said I actually owed them R85 and by the end of the phone call her calculations had brought it to R94,31.
I have nothing from MWEB or the ITC BA saying I owe them R94,31 but I felt pretty sure from the tone of the conversation that if I paid them R64,42... The number I have in writing the ITC BA and MWEB would take judgement against me, and the amount would be anyones guess...
I think you are judged by the company you keep and if MWEB are keeping company with the ITC BA then all I can say is bring on OpenWeb.

What a bunch of scumbags!

I'll repeat ... any company that makes you give a calendar month notice (i.e. it can be 60 days) are not trustworthy.

And a great way to make sure you have lost a customer forever, sue. Idiots.

Hi greg0205

Please provide me with your MWEB account details and I will get the collections manager to look into this and provide feedback.

Kind regards

I just loaded a well seeded torrent to see if my experience is similar and... not quite as bad but not much better. Lol, it's a bit sad really, I load a torrent and check back a week later generally. :p

Like all the rest of us I also found by NNTP service went for a complete ball from the 13th Nov . Up to that time I was getting rock solid 400+kB/sec after hours , since then its dropped to arround 150 -175 kb/sec. How can the demand for data traffic increase by over 100 % overnight which would explain halving dataspeed over night ? I think its just bull**** excuse - this recent drop in performance! Mweb probably have not paid one of the cable suppliers so BW is now halved
Pete

Im experiencing very slow speed again. Everything was fine and now speeds are abysmal. Even loading websites takes forever. I hate this. Taking one step forward and 20 steps backwards.

hi Necr0mancer

Please advise if your problem still persists and if you require any assistance.

me thinks MWEB is learning a lesson with their uncapped accounts, or at least getting an answer to: How much (capacity) is enough? me thinks MWEB's capacity fills up very quickly as they upgrade their network, which is why we see shaped protocols suffer so much. This is where you have to be careful as a company, it is the very thing that could send you from hero to zero very very quickly.

I would not want to be in the decision making chair at MWEB right now: Do we buy more capacity? Not a question I would want to answer or justify...

Something they never learn though is to stop being so over-eager, just when everything looked like it was running smooth they introduced even faster uncapped fackages and the network turned on its head. Like your grandmother should have told you, prevention is better than cure, a MASSIVE increase in BW before the new option would have been much more logical.

MWEB just don't seem to care about their own newsgroup access. Lately it's been down far more than it's been up. If it carries on like this then I've just lost a massive amount of future data. Torrents are shaped to the extreme (even way off peak) so that makes them tedious to deal with. MWEB need to change the description of the product to 'browsing/streaming/email only'; since much everything else is useless most of the time.

I'm not really bothered with the MWEB news server. I make use of a subscription based news server which works great, only costs about R90/month. There is a problem though, during the day and most of the evening, due to shaping, it is a total waste of money as I can barely download anything. I think if MWEB invested in a local subscription based news server providing less shaped speeds (seeing it is local and all) they would have a winner, provided the service is reliable and offer good speeds.

I am willing to pay say R80 to R100 / month for such a service (and I'm sure many others) provided I can actually use it when I have a hunger for some news :)

arg personally im over all the urinating against the wind and rehashing old complaints. hahaha "actually overall complaints have dropped", thats because you have managed to wear most of us out wiseguy. They only do effort every now and again to get new customers, they don't actually care about the current customers and they never will. It's a business of exploitation, they exploit their customers, their customers try their best to exploit them in return if only out of sheer spitefulness. Makes me a sad sad panda that no one actually cares about building concrete brands anymore, fast money is where it's at. hahaha they won and made a old man of me.

The "real" Rambo would never give up

Well, I have noticed some VERY strange behaviour by the shaper...
Torrents, nntp and rapaidshare are better during the day! Over teh weekend, I got 40KB/s normally, then this morning I decide to try it again, I only d/l when I am infront of the PC, so I see now one torrent going at over 100 and the rest hitting 10-20KB/s

Now explain this to me...

My downloads are flying today:
16 Nov 2010 00:35:09 - 16 Nov 2010 10:27:45 54.7MB

Certainly not a 4MB uncapped account - its not even a 14.4k uncapped account.
