Is this something that started last night? Your line readings are impeccable, so can't be that. Is it possible if you could test this again and provide me feedback as to whether the problem re-occurs

Is there a new alternate address for news.mweb.co.za? It's stable at 90 kbs for me but 196.28.78.229 used to give me full speeds but doesn't connect at all anymore.

Hi dazzazzad,

There are no alternate addresses, you need to use the news.mweb.co.za address and we will automatically route you to the closest server.

As soon as Monday hit its 15kb/s off mweb news server and there is now a 40 ping increase to international all of the sudden. I see there are more people than just me that had a sudden decrease in speed this morning.

Lol oh hell no. Look at those speeds? Mweb actually throttling the account to 20kb/s ? Cause no way speed test is shaped. You cannot say that this is just p2p shaping now can you?

"SLOWER THAN 94% of ZA"

Hi Sillicur

NNTP and other P2P type activities are managed on our uncapped shaped products and available bandwidth for these services is contended with other P2P users.

This means that speeds can fluctuate from time to time and while we always strive to give as much bandwidth as possible to these services we make no guarantees about how well they will perform.

This has been discussed extensively on these forums and my recommendation to all P2P users is to consider the overall amount of bandwidth you have used for the month, rather than speed watch on a daily basis.

If you require the immediacy of line speed transfers for your P2P needs then I would urge you to consider moving to an unshaped product.

Please also try and download the following bandwidth monitor to get a more accurate reflection of your network.

How do you explain 20kb/s to http, while using youtube and 18kb/s using FTP then today and the higher ping. Surely those dont all fall under P2P.

And boom instant silence after this.

Unfortunately the unshaped account/product that I have is doing the very same thing. So that is not the answer to the problem.

Then why for 8 months was it stable and all mweb users were getting full speed and now we only get half the speed we used to?

Because they have a new shaping policy i.e. shape the hell out of everybody and everything. The customers that leave will not make a dent on the savings they achieve.
Their aim is not customer service ... their aim is to improve their bottom line like any corporate. They are in business to make a profit even at the expense of some unhappy customers. Complaining will not help. A mass defection of customers is all that will make an impact and that will never happen.

The least Mweb can do is come out and be honest, yet they ignore us, or it seems like they are ignoring us. I really hope mweb gets it together and deliver the wonderful service that most of their costumers had for the past 8 months.

Then why for 8 months was it stable and all mweb users were getting full speed and now we only get half the speed we used to?

Exactly, clearly there are more people experiencing this issue but Mweb gives a generic response about shaping. It was so awesome for 8+ months like you said and now its not awesome anymore, during the day. During the night its fine. Im still downloading allot per month but its not the same as it used to be. Its probably still the best uncapped service but they changed something. Guess allot of us are used to the speeds we got since we signed up.

Now they will either not reply or paste a generic response about shaping and getting an unshaped account. Guess what, people like cosmic_nomad with unshaped accounts also getting the "very same thing"

Please just be real with us :(

There's also the response in waiting that's been with legal for a week + few days now about the ASASA ruling. I guess that will not happen, though now I can safely say that at least openweb had the balls to respond without giving it the carpet treatment. Maybe it is time to move over to gold, there at least you get closure and not STFU it's with X ...green, yellow and black might be a fitting theme here.

:e
due to deranged page number as thread opened, I see that Asy1um8 was replied to. Still an official response to the ruling and real one to that would be nice :)

Legal processes take time. I expect that ASASA and/or MWEB will release a statement/article in due course.

IMHO

Saturation point

The customer base has grown, so the new agressive shaping policies allow more customers to use the same amount of bandwidth.
Lower bandwidth to the customer, but more money in the pocket, for not having to pay for more pipeline.

But as i say- just my opinion
