The problem seems to be when we go international. There is a massive slow down, especially when we go through "pos0-0-3-0.lon-up-1.mweb.co.za [196.22.164.2]" My pings going from 12ms to 192ms

I am having major issues with timeouts when I connect to astraweb,, however the mweb news server is running normal for me. I have had good speeds the last 3 weeks or so, It seems my luck has run out.

Not much better here:

Even mygaming/mybb forum slow when posting

speedtest.net doesn't even load, and if it does, gives a configuration error/times out entirely

Im in cape town on a Business Uncapped 384 line. I set my pc to download files from a server in the netherlands on a 100mbps line today. The files were downloaded over http(http daemon= nginx 0.8.54).

Between 6am and 8am the average download speed was normal (40kbps).Between 8:30 and 12:30 the average speed was 30kbps. Between 13:00 and 16:40 the average speed was 15-20kbps. I then tried again between 1800 and 1830 and got 30kbps. So i switched to afrihost and got 40kbps for another 30mins.I then switched back to mweb and got 30kbps.
I ran a test on a TENET line to make sure it wasnt the server and the download speeds averaged 2mbps so the problem is not witht the server.

Hope that helps.

i have the same problem, but only with mweb.

Yea I'm not even trying on a different ISP

I haven't seen this since my days on a 56k modem (and even then it happened rarely) but I have a download going (downloading League of Legends) and it's downloading at 8400 Bps

No, that's not an ignorant typo of some kind where "I can like to know what the intarwebz are". Bps.... no K... only B

Also very slow

Thank you for all the ping and tracert results, I will escalate this to our engineers for further investigation. We will provide feedback as soon as we receive more information. Please bear with us while we conduct this investigation and get to the bottom of this queries.

Kind regards

International on mweb completely down now, cannot access or ping anything international. Well done.

Mweb is useless, moved away from them a long time ago would never go back! They ripped us off for so many years and when cheaper Intl bandwidth arrived they weren't even the first to provide better offerings they had to play catchup when the smaller service providers offered great deals, totally useless.

Which provider are you with now and how good are they for NNTP local downloads?

I have two accounts mainly for redundancy and best possible latency when needed.

Afrihost is the one account I use it mainly for local browsing and downloading, their international traffic is routed over the Seacom cable, they have failover if something goes wrong with this undersea cable but it can take a while to reroute traffic.

For that reason my second account is with Webafrica, unshaped so any activity on this line is pretty fast but it's much more expensive than Afrihost so I only make use of it when latency is more important than speed. They make use of the old undersea cable mainly so this is where my redundancy comes in, I just switch accounts accordingly if one of the cables experiences problems.

Both ISP's give great customer service and have super deals every month but most importantly they don't rip you off.

oh nice man, thx for the info, checking out what some people say about other ISP's while waiting for mweb to fix their network. Do you have any idea how fast afrihost goes in news servers on a 384 line? During the day on mweb in getting 10kb/s on news :( I have an afrihost free 1gig and it goes full speed but i guess thats different from their uncapped products.

Dear god, posting on 1gig afrihost my local went down now too. ROFL. Cannot ping mweb.co.za
Really, shaping the hell out of everything since the beginning of this month, still no answers to our issues and now no connectivity to anything. Not even www.mweb.co.za
Pretty much the worst month for any isp ever and i am including telkom.

Local back up, international still down. Thought there was a backup for when international goes down. Seems that was a lie as well?
