This morning my internet also seems to be back to normal or it was when I left at 6:30am for work.

I had no international or possiblily no connectivity for at least 2 hours last night (sometime in the region of 2am to 4am), I left my machine downloading last night, and according to the date and time stamping of the files downloaded, there seems to be a two hour gap. there is no way my 4 meg line would take over two hours to download a 50 meg file.

I was having major issues last night connecting to astraweb. I was getting a lot of timeouts. Mweb news was running the whole time, without any timeouts until 10:30pm (the time I went to bed) I dont knwo what happned after that. I did post a traceroute before I went to bed and posted here and I had major slow downs to international once it passed through one mweb server. (So that where the problem was mweb - "pos0-0-3-0.lon-up-1.mweb.co.za [196.22.164.2]" )

Hopefully things will be better tonight

Ok,

9:11am and am streaming youtube at 720p. Things feel back to normal. Ping seems a bit slower however:

update at 09h25
local download from mweb gamezone : 410KB/s
international download from nvidia 230KB/s
no ping packet loss

Cannot connect to Mweb Home or Mweb Game Zone pages using IE 9 or FireFox. Other sites, Google, UK Met Office, Mybroadband etc connect withouy problem. Have rebooted router and PC.

Looks like I probably spoke too soon about today being different to yesterday. My speeds appeared to be good, but it was only because I had 8 threads going at once, and it was clear from yesterday that any throttling that is taking place is being done at the "per connection" level. If I change my download manager to use only a single thread, I am getting about 45KB/sec.

Again, as was the case yesterday, two friends in Cape Town are getting between 250-340KB/sec on the exact same URL. I'm in Durban.

Hi guys i have noticed the past month or so that the shaping on the news server has been restricted to 8-20k during the day and 12am - 7am its full speed on cached or uncached stuff , is it just me or has mweb realy shaped the local news server ? i know the server is free and is a added bonus

Hi TonyA

We are aware that our MWEB page is not compatible with IE 9 as yet. Our engineers are looking into this.

The mweb server is basically pointless to even try and use before 12am. If I need files immediately use a WA account; full line speeds.

yeah im hoping we can get to the bottom of this, i dont care, they can shape my account to 56k during the day, but when i get home i dont want to juggle isp accounts and waste time with speed tests and tracerts etc.
currently mweb data + afrihost 10gb account costs more than openweb gold

Slow for me today again, trying to do updates for some apps on my iPhone and getting no more than 25kb/s. Last night was getting full speed.

and, yes, its slow again...but not on WA backup acc

youtube streams at 480p. justin.tv and the stuff I stream from www.gomtv.net won't even stream at 240p. Below are ping results from all three and one from google.com.

hi MwebGuy & Will

those are just local speedtests and download links

sourceforge uses Tenet mirrors which will be fast because they are local

*edit : suggestion : we need a UK and US link to test speeds on, else these tests wont help you investigate any issues outside our borders...

*edit2 : I've got 2 virtual machines which u can log in and see for your self that im not making these things up, one is on a mweb account, the other on afrihost, the afrihost connection is blazing fast

*edit3 : another tip, add optional fields on the form for people with extra accounts from other isp's

Agreed, speed tests, especially local ones do not provide a correct results as the connection will spike drastically. I can do a speed test to MWEB's Cpt server and on my 384k line it will spike initially to about 38kB/s for 1 second but when looking at a Networx graph that will be the only spike that high, the rest will be about 18 - 25 kB/s. The Speed test will say my speed is 38kB/s though.

I know it will all aid in the investigation, I thought I'd just point that out though.
