Hi All,

The Cape Town news server is currently not accepting connections, our engineers are looking into it.

What about other news servers? I am also Cape Town based, and it seems we can't access any NNTP at all, not only the MWeb server.

This is just pathetic, having a 4mb line that runs like a 384 line isnt acceptable. Mweb used to be so good and that was my reason for switching from Afrihost to them, but in the last month or so their service has deteriorated terribly. I could never get a straight answer on why speeds would magically increase after 12am, Ive had my account re-authed twice (whatever thats supposed to do) and no change in the least. Im currently downloading a file and the speed is fluctuating from 13KB/sec to about 20KB/sec. So much for a "4mb uncapped" line...

Same problems are back again. Normal browsing very slow, p2p and services like hotfile, rapidshare, fileserve are basically dead. (4mb business uncapped)

Switched over the weekend - find it substantially slower than Afrihost:

must be that fixed newyork [-]shaper[/-] regulator. going to do a speedtest as well in a while so we can compare results :)

:e
Slower than 52% of ZA™

Hi Skratch,

Please can you PM me your Mweb account details in order for me to look further into this. Please advise if its HTTP or NNTP downloads that are slow.

MWEB Guy

I have experienced exactly the same thing, really terrible speeds the last month, and this on a 4mb uncapped account. I also moved from Afrihost to MWeb because they were so much better at that stage, but it seems that after a year it's time to start looking around again. Any suggestions?

In fact Will/Mweb Guy:

Please urgently look into why I am getting these speeds on NNTP. Shaping or no shaping 5kb/s is not acceptable for the product I'm on. Speeds during the day (9am - 2am) have been as per the attached screenshot for the last few weeks now and frankly im at the end of my patience. HTTP is not running as it should, torrents are ok-ish, streaming is up and down and NNTP is pretty much dead. If I switch to another ISP all protocals are running at twice the speed on everything except NNTP, which runs about 50 times faster. Please, I am getting tired of having to continuously buy bandwidth from elsewhere because the performance on this account is so shocking. I have brought this up before with no assistance received.

Bump.

Faster than 61% of South Africa, which is not good enough on a 4meg line. It's shocking MWeb.

When they say they will look into your account they put off your protected access and dont tell you about it. Otherwise its just a placebo effect. They dont actually do anything it seems. I have been told they will look into it multiple times.

News server back up but running at 6kb/s after office hours, might as well do a R7 deal dialup, same speeds.

Hi

My 4mb account is also slooow. Even my mails are downloading slowly. BBC news video encoded at 384kbps is buffering, speed around 18Kbps and fluctuating.
