Why ? Just filter out what you don't want to read. There are as many opinions as there are users of this forum. Try not to dictate to others based on your own sample of one.
You don't get it, do you? Try placing yourself in the guy's shoes. I'd like to see your work ethic if you were to be faced with disrespect persistently
When my last 15 posts all explain my problems in such detail, receiving a PM that has nothing to do with my problem is an insult.
Fair enough, but publicly declaring one's dissatisfaction in defamation of character style - such negative publicity, will probably not lead to much desire to help you out (over other requests) in the helper. Just not a nice way to handle it. Of course it's bad and sad if you got a standard unhelpful response that was irrelevant to your query, but commencing world war 3 surely won't being about much positive change

It isnt disrespectful to the customers to allow a game like World of Warcraft to be played on it for over a year with zero problems and then enforce a harsh and unneeded shaping protocol on them? It works both ways.

In fact its even more disrespectful to not openly admit the aggressive shaping and try and differ it to being a line problem. It makes my blood boil.

So far, my connection is flying and I'm happy. So far, I have to say that MWeb Guy's patience is legendary. So far, you're doing a better job of making yourself look bad.

If you don't like the service you're receiving then move to a different provider. I recently switched over from OpenWeb. MrBEEP is incredibly helpful and the products are excellent, however, I'm in a region that, for some reason, has an issue with some of them. If MWeb doesn't work out, I move back, simple as that.

Throwing a pointless tantrum won't get you anywhere nor will it leave a mark. Vote with your wallet.

By the same token, if you don't like what he is saying or how he is saying it then feel free to ignore it. Are you a school principal or the self-elected forum boss ?

Please explain to me how I am throwing a tantrum? I am merely stating facts.

Facts:

1) For over a year I have been with Mweb Uncapped and I have loved it. I have been able to raid 25 man heroic raids which can use up to 80-100kb/s during intense periods, perfectly fine albeit with a proxy service. In fact I was extremely happy to be an Mweb customer.
2) Something changed this month that has caused me to not be able to do simple tasks in WoW that require a lot less throughput, like Random Battlegrounds. Even Arena and questing are affected. 2-3 seconds of delay and 900+ms has forced me to bring my complaints to these forums.
3) Tried and tested WoW on an unshaped service from WebAfrica @ R99 a gig. I then have none of the problems mentioned above @ no. 2.

Those are the facts. I respect Mweb Guy for taking the time to help me out. I am not directing my unhappiness at any personal individual but at the company. I play World of Warcraft at the highest level possible. I want to keep being an Mweb Customer. I just want the problems I am currently having with World of Warcraft to be fixed. That is all. There is no anger or flaming.

Respect is earned. It's not a given. And perhaps you need to study up on defamation laws. You can't defame an unknown screen name.

*yawn* Irony. Hypocrite. Can't be arsed to deal with someone like you.

Understandable. I was with OpenWeb for the same length of time. If things don't get better and you exhaust your frustrations then the only option you have left is to switch providers. You can't honestly tell me you like being upset or constantly ranting about the same problems? Give MWeb a skip and maybe try them again in a few months? Use a friend's account every so often and see if anything's improved?

I have an Altech account (no news servers/P2P) that I might be willing to let you try. It's not like I have any use for it any longer and it will only go to waste during the course of the month.

2) Something changed this month that has caused me to not be able to do simple tasks in WoW that require a lot less throughput, like Random Battlegrounds. Even Arena and questing are affected. 2-3 seconds of delay and 900+ms has forced me to bring my complaints to these forums.
I can completely empathise with that and I hope you get it sorted but, if I've learnt anything over the last few months it's that if a backbone has a problem then chances are good that the fault lies with Telkom's IPC more so than with the ISP (hence why some people have issues while others do not). I don't believe that any ISP can really do anything about that.

Although, as I've said before, I don't fully understand how it all works.

3) Tried and tested WoW on an unshaped service from WebAfrica @ R99 a gig. I then have none of the problems mentioned above @ no. 2.
Only natural that a different backbone would give you different results.

Then I misunderstood, I'm sorry. I honestly believe that if MWeb Guy could help then he would've.

I really hope your issues get sorted but I guess I'm just a pessimistic cynic :p

Again I offer you the analogy, because you seem to have missed the point: put yourself in Mweb Guy's shoes, and imagine having to take criticism from all angles whenever you volunteer to log on and help out on a public forum - how would you react? The answer to that question will reveal two important facts: 1. Continuous complaints and disrespect towards the person that you depend upon aren't going to bring you quality voluntary assistance; and 2. Therefore: no, I'm not trying to be a self-elected forum boss, nor a school principle - both of those actually seem ridiculously irrelevant when examining my motives objectively: what I'm trying to do is bring about civilized behaviour, because I know what that does to any system. It's something I'd like to call common sense, but when dealing with ignorance like yours - it seems we need to find another term for

my newest pet theory is that this new wave of shaping is preperation for the big 512 to 1MB upgrade

I just had a very long conversation with Will over the phone. Hopefully we can sort something out and will be doing some more tests to get to the root of my issue. I just want to say thanks for phoning me. After I spoke to Will it feels different, because you actually hear a voice at the other end and it does feel much more human and personal. A bit of ranting aside. Lets see what happens, I still have some hope that it will get better.

Will@MWEB said he'd phone me, but that never transpired... I'd still like to know if MWEB are planning on fixing things, or at the very least, whether they are yet prepared to acknowledge that there is a problem that goes beyond individual circumstance.

Will, if you're still out there, please do call... You've got my number, as you requested.

Well, I cannot complain: P2P is cruising at 285 kB/s... something has definitely changed for me. Regular HTTP full speed. Just hoping my Belkin piece of poo doesn't decide to freeze up again when I go to bed.

PS: Latency still problematic on XBox... but nothing too sever to warrant another rant.

Screenshots to illustrate my problem:

Mweb Uncapped 4 megabit shaped account:

Recap:
1) Mweb Uncapped 4 megabit shaped account. Idle 712/500ms. In Random Battleground 1100-1400ms. Battleping showing instantaneous ping of 235ms.
2) WebAfrica Unshaped Prepaid account. Idle 200/200ms. In Random Battleground 250-400ms. Battleping showing instantaneous ping of 185ms.

Now please can you explain to me what is causing this? The only difference between the 2 accounts is shaped vs unshaped. This leads me to believe that the problem is occuring with the shaping on the Mweb Account.

Will do these tests again when Im back from Business trip. And also in new month, Axxess account is capped. lol.

Will start downloading file from international site using chrome, then post the same screenshot, using MWEB 4meg Uncapped account.
Will start downloading SAME file from international site using chrome, then post the screenshot, using AXXESSLITE account.

Im sure the evidence will be pretty obvious. We are heavily shaped on port 80. Or at least something is not right on the Durban mweb network.

UPDATE:

Today I got proper internet until about 1pm then it was back to good old 20k/sec internet again. I will bet my bottom dollar (which I have spent on prepaid internet so that I can do my work and enjoy the thing I signed up for with mweb) that tonight at 12 the magic internet fairie will wave its wand and I will get full speed again until 8am tomorrow morning, the same way it has been for a month now.

How many of you observe the same pattern?

The term "putting yourself in someone's shoes" is not an analogy.
MWEB-Guy's presence here is not voluntary. He's paid to do a job. (Which from the sound of things he seldom does)
Now off you go and find out the difference between principal and principle.
And you talk of ignorance. Now THAT's irony.

All's great in Cape Town
