Welcome to the "They think we are idiots" Mweb club. It's a disgrace. They are punting uncapped but always come with the generic "You used ......... be happy and shut up" Bullshiit!

Im just getting gatvol.. every single time i have to phone them, i have to use my mobile, which costs MONEY. So its not the odd R500 or so a month we spend with them, you have to add the extra R200 rand addition to your cell phone bill to that. I dont swear often or publicly show my frustration but this is ridiculous. I've paid R6000 for a online music production course that starts on monday and i KNOW im going to have issues because of this up and down rubbish with our accounts. This kak of upgrading 384k accounts to 1 meg (no offense to anybody who is being upgraded, im not blaming you) when they cannot even get the consistency of the 4meg accounts right ,is blowing my mind.

I DJ and i buy music from the likes of www.trackitdown.net and www.beatport.com , i can't even "preview" 10 seconds at a time when pre-listening tracks i need/want to buy without it cutting out. Every single time i speak to an mweb representative, i tell them, i am not bothered by the shaping of p2p/filesharing etc during business hours, i UNDERSTAND their reasoning and accept the shaping policies in this regard. But PRIOR to 2 weeks ago, i had NO ISSUES with what i explained above.... and in the last 2 weeks i have seen NUMEROUS people on this forum complaining about HTTP speeds. Who the hell is going to stay up till midnight and do what they actually need to physically do (like pre-listen music etc) when they have work the following day, just to be able to make PROPER use of their HTTP speeds (which are not supposed to be "shaped" and is prioritised accordingly.

We are NOT stupid Mweb, 80% of us are proper IT technicians/engineers too.

Tyronnes, please advise if there is anything else running while downloading? Please also try and test downloads from the site with a multi threaded download manager eg. Flash get and provide us the results.

YES! I hear you. I too have had the same experience. More than six phone calls to MWEB techincal support over the past 10 odd days. Had my line sync speed dropped from 6.2MB to 4MB, reset the ports.....nothing has helped. When I phoned last night I was told that my usage was at 170GB for the month!?! I said to him why on earth should it matter where my usage is???? It is an uncapped account after all, isnt it?? And Im on a premium business "low contention" account and I cant seem to download anything via http or iTunes updates faster than 50KB/s between 6pm and 11pm!! And everytime I call they say the dont know of any other complaints like mine. I keep telling them to visit the forums on here and actually take some time out to read what there customers are experiencing and saying but thats obviously too much effort for them.

If things dont improve REAL soon, I will have no choice but to move over to another ISP. Ive been with MWEB for 10 months now and have never experienced such crappy speeds like now in the past 2 plus weeks. And I have had months where I downloaded as much as 390GB. What gives MWEB?? Do you actually know? Or is this the way things are gonna be from now on. Denial and no delivery!

That's hilarious... reminds me of Roy from The IT Crowd.

"Hello, IT, have you tried turning it off and on again?"

Are you in KZN tyronnes?

I have to try my best to remain calm while typing this. *deep breaths* *no curse words*

I figured I'd wait until the new month to see if things get sorted.

So imagine my surprise when I wake up to a 4MB service on a 4MB package. Everything is great and then... midday arrives. I am now getting an average speed of 30 KB/s on an HTTP download with only ONE download running.

It is the new month, so I have definitely not downloaded an amount that could be considered abuse of fair use. And in May I downloaded LESS than 100 GB whereas I could easily manage more before.

New month, 4MB uncapped, HTTP... and still poor, poor service. This is not the service I (and many others) have been getting before.

I am quickly losing my patience.

Just to confirm is my line sync as below? Taken from my router Netgear. Maintenance - Router status - Connection status. So as far as my limited knowledge goes this means my line is synced at 1mbps right? And Mweb simply has to upgrade my package? If I'm wrong please correct me.

Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1024 kbps 507 kbps
Line Attenuation 28.0 db 11.0 db
Noise Margin 28.9 db 21.1 db

The techical support is useless.. they just reset your port and tell you to switch off you router for 30 mins. and then say there nothing wrong on their side... or its shaping.

Mweb guy put me in touch with a techical specialst. They phoned me, and asked a lot of questions about my download speeds from astraweb and what connects and what does not etc. I was told that my line seems to be effected by the problem effected international access.

that was on Monday.. I still get an sms from mweb daily saying that my call is been investigated.

I know this is not going to help those with issue, but, I'm in KZN (auto upgrade to 1024) and my speeds are really good (I'm on 1024k uncapped) so I dont know if this is a MWEB issue? Getting between 90 - 105kb downloads (and it's not local traffic):

Max. Bandwidth Down/Up(kbps) 11808 / 1000
Bandwidth Down/Up(kbps) 1024 / 512
SNR Margin Down/Up(dB) 36.5 / 13.0
Attenuation Down/Up(dB) 32.0 / 15.5
Power Down/Up(dBm) 17.5 / 6.5

Just got a call from MWEB; quite disappointed... they're apparently shaping my uploads to a VPS, my HTTP traffic is also shaped and YOUTUBE is shaped. So am desperate looking for an alternative. Any ideas? I'm guessing it's a months notice right?

Well there is openweb gold, but that's like R200 more. However from what I've heard the vb backbone is great without the bigbrother shaper :)

So, MWEB, care to let us in on what is really going on?

Are some/all of us getting shaped on HTTP and Youtube? Why the sudden change?

I can't keep paying for a 4MB service if I'm going to struggle on and off with HTTP downloads and video streaming for who knows how long.

Hi Marlin

I'm sorry to hear that you're not happy with the product. We do classify traffic from VPS providers who allow torrentflux, or other such mechanisms to turn p2p traffic into FTP/HTTP as p2p sites which means that you are right, this traffic will be shaped. If you require an unshaped experience on these activities then please consider moving to one of our unshaped products.

Youtube however is not shaped.

Kind Regards
Will

Who do I contact to cancel? Is there a person I can mail or must I phone them?

MWEBs typical "business" logic would be... "hey, lets give priority and 100% account usage to our new 'upgraded' accounts, so that they can go along and tell ALL their mates with other ISPs to come over to mweb because the 'speeds are great and we getting full line/account speed' ..... pffssshhhhh wait till they change it once they've accumulated the market share... this happened with the 4meg uncapped when it came out...
