How would you bypass their shaping? I am an attorney not an IT expert, will it be done intentionally or can it be done by mistake?

VPN (virtual private network) most likely.my internet has been running at acceptable speeds and my ping is also alright at the moment.going o wait until 4PM to see if it changes.

Using a VPN is not against the AUP. Continuously (1) using a VPN (2) to download massive amounts of data (3) on a shaped account (4) is against the AUP. You need to do all four, all the time, AFAIK.

MWEB ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
"You may stay connected as long as you are actively using that connection"

What does that phrase means?

I don't use a vpn to download stuff. The only vpn I do use, is when I connect to my work to do work stuff.

So I would also like to see the answer to zoltain73's post.

That is a good question and we have not yet had a clear answer. The very nature of ADSL is that it is a permanent connection.

SSH or SSL connections to download stuff? Sharing your connection? Unsecured wireless? Did MWEB Guy reply to the PM he asked you to send?

Basically that you can download as much as you want, provided you're sitting in front of your computer :D

"We reserve the right to establish policies, rules and limitations, from time to time, concerning the use of any service. You must comply with any bandwidth, data storage and other limitations we may impose, in our reasonable discretion. Failure to comply with these rules will result in your service being restricted, suspended or terminated, in our reasonable discretion".

I believe mweb must then rather impose, established policies and/or rules and limitations in order for their users to be clear on the use of their uncapped service.

yep, they are welcome to impose limits etc, but tell us beforehand, and give the option to opt out of the contract if you dont agree.

Any time frame to when the new IPC link will be up for Durban and Johannesburg?

Nope no SSH or SSL connections whatsoever. The point is, I think they need to relook their AUP on uncapped accounts.

Be that as it may, there must be something about your usage patterns over time that has triggered the warning. It's not purely usage-based. They've said before that it is based on HOW you are using the connection, not on HOW MUCH you've downloaded in an of itself.

according to that logic, the people who are currently getting max speeds of 45KB/s on a 4mb line thus will take 10 times longer to complete a ISO download etc, 24 hours for a file in stead of 3 hours,
are not allowed to let it run too long, which they are forced to do because of the above mentioned slow speeds?

NNTP is crawling again - done 40MB in the last hour :(

So why keep moaning seeing asw though you always attack other complainants.
Buy a porn video and shoesh.
Is that 40MB of legal stuff or pirated ?

I never use NNTP, but I tried it earlier to see what speeds I could get. Was pleasantly surprised to see that I was getting 160kb/s on cached content. Downloading some non-cached content now at a very decent 80kb/s. I'm using the Mweb news server with four threads connected. Hope this isn't just a fluke.

And of course I spoke too soon. NNTP completely dead.
