I spoke to a telkom techie about a month ago, and i mentioned that i was going to give my line back to telkom because mweb were giving me no additional value by keeping my line (on the all-inclusive package).
I spoke to a telkom techie about a month ago, and i mentioned that i was going to give my line back to telkom because mweb were giving me no additional value by keeping my line (on the all-inclusive package). What he said was interesting, basically "be careful - as soon as you tell them you're dumping them they 'mistakenly' cancel your line with telkom, and you find yourself with no line for days while you have to fix the problem." He says he's seen it many times...so, let's hear from guys who have actually stopped their mweb service and have lived to tell the story!

How much did you download per month on average? How did you download it?
Not to add fuel to the flames or rub people the wrong way up. I must say speeds aren't as bad as they were in the past, since my last post to Will@mweb.
During the day I get around 40-50kb on international NNTP servers, on port 119, and in the evenings after around 10pm full speeds till the following morning 6am.
Cant speak about the gaming side of things, for I am not a big on line player.
But I can truly say I have gotten my money's worth for the past year.
Thanks Mweb, you've kept me on as a client.
i averaged around 300-350 GB recently...
i just bought a Full HD LED, so 720p movies and series.
Please don't get me wrong people... I'm content with the volume of data I pull; it just frustrates me to see my news client sitting at 0 (literally 0KB/s) all afternoon.

How do you get 40 - 50kb during the day using international NTTP servers .. I get 0.0kb during the day...... My speed only starts around 9pm if I am lucky.
I still cant believe that mwebs network remains at full capacity so late... I would except it to start easing off at 5pm when the working day starts ending
Will@MWEB said:We have already openly discussed the changes implemented since the beginning of May starting with the introduction of the London traffic manager. subsequent to this we shifted the local links to a more dynamic QoS model which allows the p2p traffic to burst into available space more dynamically, but in the reverse when other traffic picks up volume it is going to force the p2p to back off more effciently and this is something as a p2p using community you guys are going to have to come to terms with, because it is not changing. Over the long haul this does in fact allow for more p2p traffic to flow through the network and this is born out by overall usage statistics so depending on network load it is possible that you will see these p2p deadspots at certain times of the day, but at other times of the day you will see more throughput than you have previously and you will find that the overnight speeds taper off more gradually in the morning.

How did you download the data - NNTP, P2P, HTTP. Did you download anything which attempts to bypass their shaping? Over VPN? NNTP over SSL?
For the past few days its been bad during the day which is to be expected, but at night it opens up. overall I'm still happy as I'm doing a fair amount of data.
