Hi Everyone

Just an update on this: We're currently operating at about 66% our normal international capacity so you can expect things to be a bit choppy. Seacom are hard at work on the problem, but unfortunately I can't give you an ETA at this point as to when we will be back up to full strength. as soon as we have any further updates either myself or MWEB Guy will let you know.

Kind Regards
Will

Just got my first abuse letter from MWEB. Gave them a call and they told me to slow down.
BTW, international is up to shyte today.

I have spoken to the necessary parties at SEACOM, they are unaware of such an outage.
Their official channel communications also has no mention of this issue that you are talking about @MWEB Guy

Hi Anthro

Perhaps you didn't speak to the right people :) According to our NOC Seacom have confirmed an Undersea fault
(near Marseilles) as I understand it. They are working hard to restore the remainder of our capacity, but unfortunately at this stage they're unable to tell us how long the repair will take.

Whatever it is please sort it out, I was under the impression that Mweb had some contingency plan not so long ago when Seacom was attending or going to attend to routine maintenance :(. I'm not impressed :(

Edit - 500mg remaining in 12 hours on a 4meg line.

Can I please have a pro rata refund for the time the fault is active? I am sick of giving the benefit of the doubt and it is time MWEB got their things working properly. I understand it is a SEACOM fault, but that is not my problem.

Good Evening Everyone

Engineers have confirmed that Seacom, the submarine cable connecting Africa’s east coast to Europe, has broken down between Egypt and Marseilles on Saturday.

This is slowing down international traffic on MWEB’s network.

We are currently running at 55% of our total international capacity and we are negotiating for extra international bandwidth to reroute traffic along other routes.

Seacom is urgently trying to restore their links, but they can’t yet tell us how long it will take, as there are a number of external factors involved.

We’re extremely aware of the impact this disruption is having on our customers, and we’re working full-steam on restoring the remaining capacity.

We’ll keep you updated on the situation.

Kind Regards
MWEB Guy

Thanks for letting us know, my connection is almost dead atm.

Can't Seacom get even the simple things right? I have not heard of any such problems on SAIX, ever, or am I not paying attention?

ARGH!!! I get the feeling that it will take more than a week to get it fixed :(

I'm also extremely dissatisfied. I'm paying R539 for 4mb uncapped and I cannot enjoy what I'm paying for this weekend. You can't just explain it away each and every time something like this happens.

Either offer a pro-rata refund for downtime or come up with MUCH BETTER contingency measures BEFORE the problem arises. For goodness sake I have to keep reminding myself that it's 2011... not the stone ages....

Agreed fully.

Otherwise really happy with MWEB uncapped overall. Thank goodness for SAIX backup during times like these.

...Wonder if Telkom Uncapped has any issues, could be a better option if MWEB keep having outages every few months.

How much have you downloaded? torrents/nntp? Did you bypass their shaping?
Just http downloading through file host sites. Downloaded close to 700GB. Gave them a call and they just told me to slow down. Apparently the guy told me if you pass 400GB, they will begin to monitor you.
