MWEB unveils uncapped virtual hosting servers

The other questions are ...

- How many IP Addresses will be available, and at what cost for more IP's?
- What Ubuntu will they use,,,, LTS?
- what GHZ will the vCPU be, or more to the point what MHZ...

5-10 days turn around time from singing the documents before receiving your details... hmm bit long...

Yup, the signup process for all of Mweb's services (consumer and business) is a massive thorn in their side. They need to overhaul this ASAP.

+1, most virtual and cloud server providers automatically provision the node after payment is made.

What virtualisation technology is used? OpenVZ, XEN, VMWare, etc?
What's the upper limit on burstable resources and what's the allowed burstable time per VM?
What are the hardware specs of the host nodes and what CPU resources are allocated to each VM?

It would also be nice if they allowed for x amount of free snapshots or for snapshots to be downloaded/stored at a remote location rather than charging for storage on the host.

Outbound traffic must be higher than inbound traffic in the same calendar month, nice way of saying no torrent downloads allowed.

Pity about the client that joins in the middle of the month, and has to transfer a lot of data to the server to get it operational.

Seedbox?

I don't understand why these other guys are posting when their bandwidth caps are fixed.

Web Africa promised a revolution today, MWEB delivered. Bravo!

What would be required to run local dedicated gaming servers?

Hmmmm, Well from past experience. Dedicated Gaming Servers should use exactly what you see, "Dedicated Servers". Reason being, you need to keep lag and ping times to a minimum and on a virtual host, I had random lag spikes etc even thou the CPU was hardly at 10%.

Feel free to try it, just remember virtual servers were not meant to be gaming servers.

I've run gaming servers on VMs before with no issues. If CPU wasn't the bottleneck, I'm guessing IO or memory was. The thing with VMs is that avail memory can be misleading, especially in OpenVZ systems. An oversold system can report free memory whilst actually paging everything, causing an already overworked HDD to experience even more IO problems. With OpenVZ, one really needs to check /proc/user_beancounters and look at vmguarpages, oomguarpages, privvmpages and kmemsize to see exactly what is guaranteed and what is burstable; and also do benchmarking with IOstat and VMstat before going into production.

I have a question: Would you appreciate it when you rented stall space at the fair grounds selling tshirts with hilariously clever slogans on them and some obese idiot stood in front of your stall with his I BEAT ANOREXIA LOL shirt, grabbing the attention of all your potential customers, and then proceeds to sell anorexia shirts to everyone who passed by?
