Thanks MWEB for giving us affordable Uncapped.
Thanks Afrihost for the lowest priced Uncapped bundle ADSL
Now I would like to compare the performance Vs Price so that we can take informed decisions.
I know its very early to get performance details from Afrihost users but when taken into consideration promises from Afriman and initial experience with different protocols we can have an early assessment between two.

Price:4 Mb Price-10 Mb
MWEB -899 MWEB-2359
Afrihost-697 Afrihost-897

Performace:

Both Shaped

Mweb:

No throttling
HTTP full line speed
NNTP-Shaped
Torrents-Shaped
Youtube-Shaped
Download Limit-
4mb: 0-400 Gb(????)(Warning Letters/
Termination if you exceed repeatedly )
10mb:?????

Afrihost:

Throttled once over threshold
HTTP- ???
NNTP- ???
Torrents- Aggressive Shaping
Youtube- ???
Download Limit-
4mb: up to 250 Gb before throttling (Max achievable???????)
10mb: up to 450 Gb before throttling

I don't have facts that's why I need all your help from 4mb & 10 mb users from both ISP's to contribute and give everyone a clear understanding of these products. Thanks for all your inputs
Cheers:)

HTTP full line speed. NNTP full line speed. Youtube I have noticed no shaping at all, can stream with no problems.

Thanks for this great thread. Some info from our side. You do can 250Gb+ before throttle on 4Mbps, and 450GB+ on 10Mbps. We don't shape HTTP protocols. NNTP is shaped, Youtube is not shaped. Torrents are given the lowest priority in terms of traffic.

Let me know if you need more info on how our products work :)

YouTube on Mweb is shaped? I did not know this.

Thanks for this thread, I shall be eager to hear the feedback of Afrihost customers.

I am seriously considering the Afrihost 10meg package as well. My usage doesn't go very high, 200gigs max, but I worry about shaping.

I'd be very interested in the feedback as well.

@sinbad , can you stream 1080p well without any buffering ?

@afriman: do torrents work at full speed after hours?

@afriman: do torrents work at full speed after hours?

Torrents are not throttled, just de-prioritized. We apply the same de-priorization formula day and night, but the speed calculation will be more in favor of torrents after hours when "normal" traffic is reduced.

Good Afternoon, if you do not have an MWEB account. Please direct message me your contact details and I will arrange you an 7 Day FREE trial account.

I can stream 720p no problem on youtube, it even buffers faster than i can watch.
1080p is not so great, but i think that is more to do with the limitation of my line (6.5mbps) than a reflection on Afrihost. I think to stream 1080p flawlessly you will need to have a line that gets over 7or even 8mbps on speedtest (sync above 8mbps)

From what i trialled on Mweb, it was excellent. the only difference for me is the price.

Bring on the price wars!!!

:confused:I do have MWEB all inclusive 4mb package. What stated above is from my experience only. Thanks for the offer:)

I have used MWEB 4MB uncapped for about 3 months, all in all it's fantastic - never had an issue.

Due to Afrihost's major price difference I have changed to their 4MB uncapped last week and say it's very close to as good as MWEB, only difference being a VERY slight latency improvement on MWEB for me internationally, though local pings - eg: pings to Hetzner's CPT datacenter are excellent (Afrihost), just as good as MWEB.

PING rider.XXXX (41.203.XX.XX) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from rider.XXXX (41.203.XX.XX): icmp_req=1 ttl=51 time=9.08 ms
64 bytes from rider.XXXX (41.203.XX.XX): icmp_req=2 ttl=51 time=8.37 ms
64 bytes from rider.XXXX (41.203.XX.XX): icmp_req=3 ttl=51 time=8.63 ms
64 bytes from rider.XXXX (41.203.XX.XX): icmp_req=4 ttl=51 time=8.69 ms
64 bytes from rider.XXXX (41.203.XX.XX): icmp_req=5 ttl=51 time=8.35 ms

Can stream 720P on Youtube without any buffering, 1080p does buffer but as Spyk3r said I think that's more of a issue with my line speed.

I use torrents for downloading but those go after hours and I don't watch them, everything seems to have downloaded though :)

Just to clarify this one, we give the highest priority to video, voice and gaming traffic - so no definitely not shaped :D

Sustained 6mbps from YouTube (my lines max speed)

I tested some 1080p videos, and it seems that if I allow it to buffer for about 10 seconds, then I can watch seamlessly. this on a 6.5mbps line, but again, i dont know about sound quality etc, so it could have been some smaller than average 1080p videos.

I watched the MIB 2012 trailer, the bf3 close quarters trailers and a couple from rivalXfactor so i am not sure what went wrong the first time..

Sitting on about 120gb for the month...
