My heart exploded..VDSL!

Happy for you man, can't imagine the feeling but I hope I feel it soon. Techies have been working on an MSAN nearby for weeks, but my line stats and speed only gets worse. In fact today is an all time low, still crawling even after midnight :( Constantia, CPT.

Recently moved into a new house in Kyalami and the previous owner's line was still active. They said I can use it untill I can get my own line installed. Plugged in my ADSL2 rooter and got 20 mbps download speeds all the time. When they finally came round to do my own line installation I was told that I can't have 20mbps ADSL and will need VDSL for that. So it's strange that I could get 20mbps with my ADSL router on the previous owner's line.

I am on 20Mbps VDSL and the modulation is G.993.2 as reported by the modem. Before my conversion from 10Mbps ADSL to VDSL, the ADSL modem was reporting my maximum attainable rate as 23Mbps (on ADSL2+) although they would not increase my speed above 10Mbps - I had to go VDSL for that.

Telkom don't officially support 20Mb ADSL. If you need higher than 10Mb, they swop the modulation over to VDSL. That said, 20Mb on ADSL2+ works fine, I've been syncing at that since last year August with no issues on one of my lines.

It's not called asymmetrical digital subscriber line for nothing.

I'm well aware it's ADSL, we have that technology in East London too.

My point is ADSL upload speed is 1meg max (in SA it seems) and it's slow.

Just got pushed back to 10Mbs as Telkom said that the 20Mbs was an error and that they don't support it. How did you go about running at 10Mbs+ on ADSL2+ on Telkom? Mine ran for a while without issue, suddenly its pushed back to 10Mbs because it was an error....

Send those three bakkies our way, you should have stopped and got their cell numbers, now those are friends worth keeping on speed dial :)

1 km north of me is Vdsl. 1 km west is vdsl. 1km south vdsl in 3-6 months. My area.....perhaps in the next 2 years...maybe
