My MTN Adventure

Nope, not at all. I wanted you to confirm it was the phone and not the service that led to your choice. Which is now confirmed.

Thanx for your input, much appreciated.

Pitbull, please don't fool yourself - MTN's service sucks donkey balls!

I went to get a new sim card for my phone on Saturday at a MTN shop and the woman had to phone MTN. I waited there for almost 15 minutes before HQ picked up the phone - I could see the poor woman was very embarrassed, cos there were people queuing behind me in the store.

And the sim only started working tonight....so let me see, the promised 2 to 24 hours became 72 hours.

Oh, and the problem that snakepit and you were supposed to help me with 3 years ago, I solved myself. I just cancelled that contract.

kingrob,

By no means am I trying to say the service does or doesn't suck ;)
I wanted to acertain his reason for not signing up, pretty simple. Your sim could have been sorted in a matter of minutes if you PM'd the right people.

I helped you before, no idea why you didn't just PM me to action the sim swap......

Pitbul,

MTN's service should not be "Your sim could have been sorted in a matter of minutes if you PM'd the right people." it should be sorted without intervention from people who should be pm'd. If this is their business case, as it seems to be, they truely adopted a "people you know attitude", but with my personal dealings with them I can confirm this.

Well the help is there if you want it.

Either you can take up the offer or not .....

Dont bother my brother, you just cause more cr@p for yourself especially when you relying on other deprtments to help you with things, i speak from experience here.

Yes I will be using the phone as a modem on two different vista systems. I explained that to them at the store. So I had them call and check that it would work as I needed, I was told it would.
Get it in writing...

True.

No use trying to be a friend and help then get this kind of treatment :p
Let me get back to my reports :D

Just 2c from my side :

I've been interested in the HTC range of smartphones, but seeing the latest troubles and hassles regarding the HTC Dream put me off HTC's phones for good.

I want something that works without having to upgrade or patch it. Is it too much to ask that I be able to use a cellphone as a modem, though it be connected via infrared, USB, Bluetooth or wifi?

All the phones I've had before was able to function both normally and as an external modem, whether via USB cable, infrared (extremely iffy) or Bluetooth, no patching required at all.

The video driver issues with the HTC TyTN springs to mind... seems HTC is intent on making a profit and not delivering quality anymore.

Think HTC is just trying to push out to much of a variety...

I'm now stuck between a HTC Touch Pro 2 or a iPhone 3GS 32Gb - never had a Apple product before..

Libs, the HTC Dream doesn't have enough RAM for the updates of Android.

Almost reminds me of the SonyEriccson P990i, great phone but not enough RAM.

The simple fact is that there is not enough memory on the G1 to support a much bigger OS, and even equipping the device with Cupcake was reportedly problematic. "We knew that internal flash space was going to be very tight on the G1 and we kept the system partition tight on purpose," Jean-Baptiste Queru, a software engineer at Google said on Twitter last week.

Here's the story :

The Dream has always been a flippen Nightmare. It's not the RAM that's the problem but the ROM (internal memory that get's flash'd). I still cannot believe how MTN got bettered by Vodacom so easily. MTN should be embarrassed. MTN should make all efforts possible to launch the Hero before Vodacom does so to save a bit of face.
