MyBB guide to quitting smoking

You learn something new every day, I didn't know that :p

Anyway, don't smoke. I just did and I smell like tobacco, tar and a cars exhaust, don't do it I tell ya!

try giving up after few years and try take that smell ...its bad and when you smoke you cant smell it ...

and i did give up before but needed to lie to people when i started again so i used to think that a little perfume would help and now i realise nothing would have helped to get rid of the smell

Well done to all the quitters!

I've been smoking for 18 years, tried to quit a few times, the last time with Zyban. Worked for three months, then alcohol undid me one evening. :p The Zyban ruined my sleep, I won't go that route again.

Going to try CT on 1 Sep. Will have to lay off the wine for a while, drinking makes it incredibly difficult for me not to smoke.

what can one do for stress cos i feel that the cig will calm me down but i dont want to and need something
smoke some weed

Zyban gave me welts on the palms of my hands and feet. Wacked! That stuff is dangerous.

Try Champix Siris, hardly any side effects at all.

Funnily enough I don't feel the cravings when I drink. Its more the mornings and after eating.

Grimspoon, really inpsiring reading this topic :). Am glad to see others who want to follow aswell.

I fell victim to smoking with hanging with the wrong crowd but this only went on for about 11 months after which i quit. No drugs or gum of any sort. It just wasn't something i enjoyed when compared to having few beers once in awhile :D.

I don't have regrets and certainly try to encourage others whom i know will listen to leave it.

All the best buddy and to everyone else too :)

So +1 this page, Recommend on facebook and bloody tweet :p already

I can tell everyone that Champix works.... I still have cravings - even going into week 7 - but it's manageable.

Thanks man! As I said, even if this inspires one individual to quit I will have contributed something positive. :)

My sister who is also a pretty hard core smoker has decided to quit after we chatted on Saturday. She really wants to but is scared as is normal.

She has booked a app with the Dr and will also be on Champix.

Good stuff! Yeah it definitely does work. Just takes that edge off I think.

Going into my 4th month, I still have cravings. I didn't use Champix though.

Let me tell you, 4 years and you will still have cravings. That is where I slipped :p

Its not all the time though, so you just have to push pass the times you get the odd craving.

15 days now for me since I've gone cold turkey.

First time though that I really feel like I need a cigarette. I keep thinking maybe just one to stop the craving, but try to keep busy.

Does anyone know what chemical the medical aid companies test for to verify you have actually quit? How long before your system is clean?

Get ultra hot chilli sticks. Munch on them when you crave.... Stay away from other snacks. (Popcorn helps too)

sometimes the munchies get more expensive than cigarettes cos i end up buying biltong and sweets and chocs ...

the craving has calmed down now after 22 days of cold turkey ...but will only get to see next month when i can have a coffee at work

now im fasting so its easiest time to give up and not worry to smoke

Yeah it does - but stay away from sweets.....

Jip, yesterday, I bought myself a pack of chips, 500ml coke and a chocolate

Normally I don't eat/drink anything like that, but the power was off and I was hungry. Most of the food shops in my area were also closed.

are the sweets bad for you or something ....

People tend to munch at the pace they smoked. The eating doesn't take away the cravings, it only helps a little. So you have people munching away on sweets and picking up loads of weight... some even going back to smoking to drop the weight again. Once that weight has been piled on it stays...

So stick to things that won't necessarily make you pick up loads, like popcorn and chilli sticks.
