Wait hang on. You need a service every 3k?

So over the normal 10k the rest of us do it probably costs the same.

Not to account for time lost even.

Or it's the yearly service maybe? 3000 is weird though, the lowest I've seen is 4000 for 125s

Then I would expect the invoice to say annual and not lost mileage.

But even 4000 it's something to consider when you think your services are cheaper on smaller bikes.
 
4000 is a schlep but the little engines are taking a beating (part of the fun I guess). I don't think I've ever done 4000 in a year though.

But the pizza delivery guys' bikes etc - I wonder if the likes of Debonairs bother servicing them every 4000 km or just let them get ridden till they fall apart and replace them as part if a bulk deal?

More than likely have a bulk deal in place with a particular shop or agent to look after them.

No way they would just let them die.

Also those Honda CB500's have longer intervals and last forever that the proper delivery guys use.

6 months or 4000km is still crazy.

It means your total services over 10000km are virtually identical to my BMW's.

Except you lost a huge amount of time in the middle.

Not to mention I get a courtesy bike etc.

Yes there is that.

It will however also easily last ten+ years. Where you will probably change bikes a few times with the smaller ones.

It will never be cheaper in a pure money sense. But might make more value sense overall.

Could have been diesel. Been there on slick tyres. It's like stepping on a bar of soap on a wet tile.

Yeah looked at it closely the other day and looks like a great bike.
Just under R63 000 makes it great value - even has ABS and braided brake lines.

The GS version is coming later.
The Kawasaki Versys x300 is also out now. 300cc twin, same engine as in the Ninja 300. R75K

Both these bikes I reckon will do daily work and back duties, the odd breakfast run in the twisties and go gravel travel quite easily.
I reckon this is almost the perfect size bikes for all that. Affordable, low on running costs and maintenance.
The CRF250 is more of a single track type bike than the other two. But also less of a highway bike.
The GS will have tubeless tyres...so nice if you get a puncture you can just plug and carry on.
The Versys is tubed. A bit crappy imho. I've repaired punctures on tubes and its realy not fun esp in the middle of nowhere, then try it by yourself.

The CRF 250 Rally is also out and comes in at R90 000. It's a bit steep for a 250 imho but looks great. Not sure on the power output but the CBR 250 was 24hp or thereabouts. So at least 10 hp down on the Kawa and BMW.

When I picked my bike up on Saturday I tried to sit on the 310... How the blue blazes do people fit on these bikes? :p I guess I'm just used to sitting all nice and comfy on my 1200GS

I fit perfectly on the 310, and on my 1200GS LC ;)

To me yes, but like I said I'm used to a big battleship. The seat for instance is 120mm lower than I'm used to, so waiting at a traffic light I'd end up getting off the bike completely (but I'd have that issue with any sports bike). Whats more funny is my dad vaguely contemplating getting one to commute with, haha - he is 15cm taller me (at 1.98m)!
