Would appreciate some advice on buying a used bike. What do I look out for and what do I avoid? How important is a full service history? Do I stick to dealerships selling second-hand (a fellow biker praised Cayenne) or can I consider sites like OLX too? I've used OLX specifically for computer parts before and experiences so far have been positive but I'd like to hear other's thoughts. In the market for a used Honda NC750X if that makes any difference.

I think you could be safe either way if you keep your wits about you, but obviously a dealer is going to do inspections etc and offer you more peace of mind (assuming they're legit). I take it you're in JHB?

If so Cayenne is a good option. Also Fire It Up on William Nicol.

I went to Cayenne when I was in the market for a bike. I got the feeling that because I was looking at boring commuter bikes rather than sexy superbikes, the salespeople had absolutely no time for me at all. I was COMPLETELY ignored.

Will not go back.

Years ago, I traded in a scooter on a motard. They seemed very helpful.

I'm based in Centurion but like others have also mentioned I avoid most Centurion dealerships like the plague, especially Honda. I've been burnt there before.

/grabs popcorn

Personally, I'd avoid OLX but that's just me. I've always gone to a dealership but if you are in the JHB area I'd go to Fire It Up on William Nicol/Fourways: http://www.fire-itup.co.za/

Fanie might be selling his...

Thanks will check out Fire It Up. Just got rid of the rats at my place so bringing home a giant rat-magnet seems unwise. Sorry Fanie.

I've gone window shopping there and had the total opposite experience. My friend also bought his NC there and has only good things to say but it's good to know not everyone's thrilled with the place.

I dunno hey, they move close to 100 bikes a month.

Our relationship with FIT is with Berto, which is why I recommended him.

I'm sure they sell plenty bikes. I've bought bikes and cars and groceries from places where the service infuriated me. That's business.

Every forum that has this Cayenne sort of discussion usually ends up with great service from Berto and the rest is well, meh.

As others have said. Fire it up. With their “integrity package“ and good prices they the only option in my opinion. Go to cayenne and add R5k or whatever to the price for “on the road fees“. Fire it up you pay the price you see.

The only place I would shop second hand if I lived up North.

Jeez even down South I would still shop there.

I'll be paying Fire It Up a visit then. I do like the sound of that Integrity Package. Thread delivers :)

A few years ago I was looking at a CBR 500 at cayenne for my wife as a first bike. I realised it didn't have ABS so was put off of it. The salesperson was trying to convince me that she does not need ABS using the logic that the CBR 1000 track bike sitting next to it does not have ABS therefore it is not needed.
