Wear and tear which included a high speed fall. The main zip has complete failed, the inner sleeve mounts have broken off and I added a couple of kg's as well.
Just a couple of kg's you say... Haha. How long have you had the gear? Just curious about the lifespan of riding gear.

About eight years in my case but usage may vary since mine did survive a fall which may have led to the earlier demise of the zip.

One thing that no amount of riding courses can prepare you, if how quickly you get gatvol, for is the dreaded:"O, you ride a motorcycle -the friend of my uncles hamster breeders' hairdresser rode a motorcycle - and he died."

I've jumped between just saying something like:"Well, it's something that I've always wanted to do" all the way to:"Well, my uncle was unhappily married, and he killed himself, so you win some you lose some."

What's your go to answers?

"Better to burn out than to fade away!"

In terms of pants and jacket, BMW gear can last for 10 years (they have experienced roughly 250,000km in that time), it is however quite faded. My RST gear should make it to about 7 or 8 years without needing some major repairs. So far I have only had to replace the main zip at around 3.5 years

Boots are anything from 3-15+ years. I expect my Sidi boots to do ten years easy before I'll even consider replacing the sole. But my first pair of cheap boots, 3-4 years tops

Helmets should only be kept for 5 years

Gloves I am not sure of, since they experience the most wear but my summer gloves seem to be on track for about 5 years.

All of the above is based on riding to work every day and the occasional weekend excursions.

Did you just quote Lina from Dota2 or is that another reference that was implanted into Dota...

Comes from way way before DOTA

Highlander 1986 ;)

The reaction I get is pretty similar.:D

Another thing is saying..."Yeah it's dangerous but so is stepping out of the shower."
You will always have people being negative about it.
Friend of mine had a T-bone in traffic. Broke his shoulder pretty bad. In the room with him was a cyclist, way way way more issues with broken pelvis, both legs and arm, another guy that went for a run on the beach, broken leg and someone who stepped of the ladder and missed the last step. Broken leg.

Difficult to answer as the usage differ so much eg commuting vs weekend trips only.

But bought leather pants and jacket in 2005 from Vivante. I only use the pants on long rides if I know I will gas it a bit. But I had to send it for alterations around the waist

The jacket I use a lot as I commute and still hasn’t given problems.

This is were leather triumphs over all.

I've replaced the zip on mine and moered down with it twice and it's still doing it's job although also getting tighter every year....while having covered at least a 100,000km.

My textile Frank Thomas jacket is still doing well but only use it in winter...but I'll never buy anything with white panels again.

Very keen to upgrade to that BMW Aero jacket come summer.

I think I must get me a leather jacket. My textile Metalize looks very much worse for wear after 18 months

I am eyeing Triump's textile jackets which seems to be a suitable BMW replacement. However finding a supplier at the moment is problematic.

I go through gloves like I go through toilet paper :(
My current set I feel (and see) is now also due for replacement. Although I'm not sure how long I've had them. 2 Years, maybe. Doubt it has been longer. Helmet also needs replacement.

Fark, everything needs money. Have stuff on my car I need (maybe not need but want, if I'm honest) to do as well.

Also in the market for a summer jacket but can never convince myself to shell out for the BMW. Thought of seeing if KTM has something for their road bikes

One thing you guys should look up is take out the back armor and see if it conforms to the correct standard. You will surprised how few jackets have armor that conforms to the back protection standards.

Standards

They were just as monumentally expensive locally but didn’t seem to offer the same quality.

They are made by a third party but buggered if I can remember their name now.

You usually think it hasn’t been that long and then you find evidence and realise they’ve more than paid for themselves.

That being said cheap gloves wear quickly. Super expensive ones rarely really do anything more than be flashy.

So a good mid to upper range glove lasts much longer in my view.

One day I’ll have them Knox Handroids though. Just because.

There armor structure was similar to the BMW Rallye jackets when I checked for about 3k less.
