I've been experimenting with binaural recording just for fun, here's my first attempt, pretty much just a few minutes of riding on my XT660R, the mini walk around pre-flight lights check was really just for the sake of testing the audio effect, not that it's a bad idea to do once in a while. :)

For those not aware, binaural recording is where the audio is recorded in a manner that attempts to simulate human hearing, the idea being that when wearing headphones it sounds like you're there. In my case I've literally just got two tiny microphones in my ears plugged into a Zoom H1n.. :p
It does get a bit noisy (wind rush), but I'm using a motocross helmet so it's fairly true to how it sounds.

Sounds awesome, never understood why surround sound is a thing since we only have 2 ears.
Should ask one of the guys in the 3d printing thread to print you some ears to put the microphones in to get an even more accurate experience. Would love to see how that looks on a helmet :D

Thanks. :)
Lol, ears on the outside of the helmet :p .. I reckon that would create a serious wind noise problem though.

Cool vid:thumbsup:, that area looks like Seaview. Did you get the bike with those Leo Vince pipes?

Yeah my XT farts and backfires like that too, I have standard pipes that I modified slightly.

Don't laugh, Got me some gloves, but as a newbie I find that I tend accidentally turn the throttle because of lack of sensitivity in my palms, any gloves that can be recommended?

Just get used to it.

Different gloves won’t change this much at all.

A few days of riding will.

Also, don’t throttle with you palms, throttle with your wrists.

So I did the ADA dual purpose intermediate course this weekend. What a bucket of fun! I'd almost recommend it as a starter course, but they don't go through how to clutch and all that - so you need to know how to ride when you do it.

We learnt how stop on dirt - no abs or traction control, how dance on our bikes, moving around, counter balancing, uphill and down hill riding, and even jumped the GS a little bit. Anyone with any plans for doing off roading should do something like this :)

Instructors are awesome! Very knowledgeable, and absolutely bonkers! :)

Yup I’m a nutcase.

I rode a bike home in the Cape Town weather tonight , including an unplanned river crossing that was tire deep and had my engine cases go under water with a massive WHOOOSH of steam.

Rest of it was also pretty exciting with zero visibility for not having wintered my visor yet and stupidly going out in the rain with it open so I get drops on the inside.

At least it gave me a reason to wash all my kit tonight.

Sounds like fun was had, what do you mean by winter your visor, what does that involve?

Bet you still had a stupid grin on your face most of the way?

I have some RST waterproof jobbies. Think the model was Titanium something.

Has lasted a good three or four years now and pretty impervious to serious cold having traveled across country with them in 2 degree lows.

Proper winter gloves are however not cheap, prepare yourself for R1200-R1500.
I have decided to budget R1500 for a proper pair of winter gloves. Since I already wasted money on two pairs that are useless I'd rather go for something tried and tested. Your review on the RST brand is promising and I figure even if I can't find the exact model I'm sure a similarly priced model of winter glove should do the job.

There in lies the problem, I can't find RST gloves in jhb. An online search shows two physical shops in CT and the rest are online. Gloves need to be tried on before buying so I won't go the online route. I tried motomate and bikers warehouse.

Does anyone know where I can find the rst brand in jhb?
Alternatively if anyone else in jhb faces the 6:30 morning chill and your gloves get the job done, please share the brand and where you bought them.

Using Rainex or C-Thru on the outside to make the water turn into droplets and sheet off easily.

Means you never need to wipe and it stays clear even in their pesky light rain conditions.

Mr Min is an alternative that works well enough but not as good.

Not too many as it was really ****, but there are those moments of triumph in between the “Jesus take the wheel” moments.

I don’t mind the weather all that much or even the cars, but when I can’t see and I literally go into areas blind, guessing where mirrors should be etc that’s not great.

And stopping is hardly an option either. I’ll admit I was on full brights all the way which I rarely do and even hazards at some point.

Even a bit of suicide lane here and there because it honestly was the safest option.

Good grief. I didn't realise the weather was THAT bad.. Glad you made it out safely!
