I watched a few of the youtube videos and then tried riding less like a chop and more like what I have watched in the videos. I was told to hire a 250cc because it is easier, but I realised that it would be easier on the bike that I ride every day, so I went to do the test on a 1200 sportster (even the instructor in Krugersdorp looked worried). Started the test at 7:45 and was sitting in the office at 8:05 doing the paperwork
This is what I think as well, I know my bike, I know its clutch brakes etc. Kawasaki ER6.

@Zuner, recently done mine at Randburg and my mate done his in Kempton Park. Just get over the nerves and ask the guys have said - it is best to use a small bike as it makes the test much easier.
I'm in centurion, but have heard good things about both kempton and randburg. Yeah when I re-wrote my learners I was nervous as F**k, but then I aced it easily, so I should just man up and do it.

Whats the costs to do the test?

I haven't done motorcycle license yet, planning on getting a 125, would have been great if I could do the test on it, also didn't know there are different codes for motorcycles I thought it was just learners and full license.
I think it's code A1 for up to 125cc or something and Code A for anything bigger.

This is correct. Whether they will look at the bike name (eg. XR125) or what is stamped on the cylinder jug (eg. 124cc) is a different argument though. I'd think they would just look at the model of the bike and go from there as opposed to inspecting the actual motorcycle engine.

Fark me that is a good deal I say, cheers, still have some saving to do though:(
There will be other good deals. The trick is not to rush into something and buy a bike that may not be ideal or have some issues. For now it would be a good idea to scour the market, do some research and maybe find some Youtube videos to teach you about proper riding technique especially in urban traffic:thumbsup:

Indeed, I've been binging Youtube for years as I wanted a bike for a looooooong time. Just need to be more cautious here by us especially with who occupies our roads and the state of them.

I'm definitely keeping an eye on the market, I really want a semi on-off not because I have any particular interest in offroading but because I like the style and they are a bit comfier than their sporty alternatives. I'd love to get a proper supermoto at some point in time but good deals and within my price range for those are few and far between. I did once go and look at one but it had bearing knock as clear as day, must have been run without oil at some point.

I think I spent 200 for the booking and another 200 or so for them to issue a card (to be collected in 6 weeks) and a temporary licence.

I then submitted my licence to my insurer and then decreased my premium by R15 :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Did they allow you to carry on with the test, Im sure it was just nerves and if you had been allowed to continue you would have aced it.

Great attitude, you will get it the next time.

Nope, sadly not. I was acing it until that point. Just had the emergency stop and the half moon turn to do.

Sorry to hear that man.
Get a light 250cc or something (if you haven't done so already)- you can rent one at most driving schools for the next test. If you're in Pretoria, I recommend Bonus Betuurskool in Waverley- although quite a few years ago, myself, my sister and mother made use of their services.

Am in CPT and have been for lessons.

My issue was this. The distance from the end of the last exercise to the start of the hill was about 100m. Riding there involved gearing up. So I got onto the hill in second gear. In trying to find first while stationary, I let the bike roll back slightly while transitioning from the hand brake to the foot brake. Next time I will make sure I'm already in first when I get onto the hill.

Hmmm how does the e stop work? certain distance to stop in?

So you ride towards a set of three lights. At a certain point, one of them will come on. The middle light is stop immediately. The left light means you swerve left and then stop, and the same for the right. You don't know which light is going to come on and you have to do it twice I think...

Oh, that's a new one. (I'm still thinking in terms of the old drivers licence test).
