have to admit i am somewhat careless.

i have a dakar which i sometimes use to rush about on.

but alas - i wear little more than normal pants, shirt & shoes - all very casual stuff - no jacket, no gloves

I'd say YOLO, but sadly, that's true, YOLO.

Please consider what Sauron has to say above.

You can YOLO in cars all you like.

On a bike odds are you will live...very very painfully.

Just got the call, I can go collect my Bike at long last. Was told tomorrow only but they just phoned me now, Insurance settled I can go pick it up /happy dance. I haven't ridden in a while now so will probably take it easy for the next few weeks.

Good stuff :D

I've decided to sell two of my Bikes, and get another BMW for my lady, Probably look at another F800GS, but not the Adventure, thats a bit tall for her.

My very first bike my dad bought me 32 years ago. I think he paid R50 for it if I recall correctly. (the good old days) I haven't started it in probably about 18 years, going to see if I can get it running again over the weekend.

Wow, that would be awesome :)

I noticed on my bike now since I got it back that the steering is not blocked. I can turn the handlebars all the way that the grips touch the tank. I think something is either not right or missing. I'll take it to BMW again on Saturday. Mate says it should have a stop thingy that is part of the frame to prevent this. Says if that is broken the bike will be a write off as it's part of the frame and compromises the integrity of the frame... I really hope not, maybe just something they missed

No idea exactly on the BMW but it would very well be controlled by the steering damper as well and that might not have been setup back to what it should be or at all.

Or as you say it's not there...

Hectic man. I have a mate who lost his leg due to a Bike injury and suffered some brain damage. Bikes just as cars come with a risk, I have had my fair share of spills and luckily never to such a degree as with yours.

Glad you're making a great recovery, and hopefully you can get on a bike again in the future :)

Accidents happen, if you were in a car and got T-boned like that you could have suffered other injuries but just as sever. Heal up quick.

That fuel economy thread popped up again, just reminded me again how much better 2 wheels are (minus the risk of course). Stand still traffic? Oh noes I'll be getting home 2min later than usual (and without any rage)! Big plus when the power is out for sure, Durbanville becomes one big gridlocked mess. I don't want to imagine what parts of Jhb look like

Problem is that tyres sort of negate the fuel saving.

Time is still the top factor.

Oh I have no illusions about "bikes save you petrol therefore you save money" - they very quickly match (probably even exceed) the cost of a small car, especially the more fun bikes
It's all about the time and lack of stress for me. Wife is happier too since I don't come home with blood pressure thats through the roof

Obviously I don't know the speed, but you all look mighty close together on the gravel. And on tar it helps to ride in a staggered formation - leader typically rides on the right half of the lane, person behind to the left, person after that to the right again etc. Means you can bunch up a bit more, but still have room to brake if needed.

Looks like a club ride? I have not been able to get out much and I am really missing getting out to the middle of nowhere and simply enjoying the miles tick by

We usually stagger, the winding tar road stretch was about 40km/h ... stuck behind a truck. There are about 5 or 6 more Beemers ahead of me. The Gravel Road section was pottering around 2nd / 3rd gear stuff. Just enjoying the scenery. This particular ride was an open ride hosted by Ryder BMW Motorrad.

Judging by the fact that no dust is being kicked up, I'd guess they were going pretty slowly at that point.

Ah, in that case ignore my ramblings, I'm just upset that I haven't been out more :p

Day trip only? I'm half thinking that I should take off like 2 weeks, and slowly make way way around the country on random roads... one day, one day
