Just read the choices, and my R70k would probably go to a Honda transalp, the 700 twin. If you can find one, a 650gs I mean the 800 twin version. Er6 as backup option.

i see, though for me 70 is absolute limit and spending under 60 means i can easily buy good gear. also my height is an issue i really like the Bmw's but remember this is a beginner bike i'm buying.

yeah i think i'll end up going er6.

If i may ask, what do you guys pay for insurance?

I think about R300 on my Street Triple.

But I've had a full license for 10+ years. Am over 30 with a good record.

Go er6. Meets all your needs

Yup. Especially with bikes.

When you get to the point of buying drop me a PM will give you a personal recommendation.

Stick to full face, it's always safer.

Helmets are noisy you should be wearing earplugs. The racier(lighter in weight) they are the worse they are.

My Shoei GT Air is as quiet as they come and I still use earplugs.
What kind of speeds does the noise become a problem?

I am on bike number 9 and have never worn ear plugs and never will .
Personal choice not a must have .

Scientifically I recall it can cause longterm damage from as low as 60km/h.

Generally it's about prolonged exposure so if you aren't hitting the highway it's probably not too bad.

Personally I would say 80-100 it's quite irritating for without. Beyond that it's unbearable.

For your sake I hope you can have an unassisted conversation with your grand children.

Personally it's not about the long term damage as much as the extreme irritation through noise levels.

Out of interest have you ever tried it? And either way why the insistence not to wear them?

If you've never tried them...How would you know any better?

Opinion to follow in the coming days.

I use all my senses when i ride/drive but besides that i find some helmets claustrophobic if they are to closed in and the plugs just add to the problem .
My hearing is exceptional and i am already a ballie .

With the right plugs you have no loss in senses at all.

But each to their own.

Those bikes look wow . The handling must be something else , never ridden a Ducati but heard the handling is realy great .

The Diavel X (black) was a very strange and unique beast but I loved it. My mate hated it so much he was almost begging me to swop.

But will sit and write a review when I have time.

Let's just state though for more than half a million rand in motorcycles it didn't live up to the price tags.
