I require warmth and rainproofing.

How would this best be attained?

My current thoughts are perhaps a pair of tough waterproof riding bottoms that could go over jeans and some sort of rain jacket setup. Gloves aren't waterproof, but that doesn't stress me out. Boots are sorted in that regard.

Any advice welcome.

The cheap option is a rain suit that goes over your regular stuff. You can go super cheap from Builder's Warehouse or get more bike specific stuff from the likes of Trac Mac and such.

Or you can buy a whole new winter jacket that has the added protection and a zip in/out lining.

Mine is fully waterproof, but does stay wet after coming in from the rain.

Rain suit on the other hand doesn't get much better than the water on the surface, but I find they often don't seal as well and water will get in somewhere.

I have a pair of Alphine Stars over pants, combined with a Frank Thomas winter jacket.

I wear a KWay rain proof 2in1 jacket, cost R800 and KWay rain proof over pants, cost R300.

Keeps me dry in 30 minutes of down pour.

Lol. My experience with those cheap rain suits = bad. Both that I bought split at the crotch, resulting in my sack getting a nice wash proceeded by my arse going ice cold. This was not fun.

Two colleagues at work swear by those Vuka rain suits. Don't know where you'll get them though.

Vuka suits have been awol for 5+ years unfortunately.

At the end of the day, any rain suit will work at least once. But if it is not designed for motorcycle use it will fail, and usually quite spectacularly.

So I've gone from casually looking to now actively buying a Bavarian.

Paperwork is done, now just the wait for it all to be sorted out and then go fetch it in Limpopo.

Recommended (Cape Town) stores to look for the aforementioned rain/winter gear? Went to Suzuki South so far, around 3.5K for riding pants (RSI) and full rain gear...

Trac Mac just a block further down from Suzuki South.

Guys I need some (a lot) of help.
I'm in the process of buying a bike, So I want to stat getting my gear. I want to get the full works but I know nothing of brands and features. And I don't want to learn the hard way wasting money buying the wrong things.

The bike is ER6F, so I'll only be doing street riding nothing hectic.

If you are looking for a jacket, I've got a brand new unused one (size 42L) with a removable inner.

You want a good helmet (Shark S700 is pretty good/affordable). You also want a helmet visor with a pinlock to stop it fogging up.

I'm a small oak I take a 36 jacket.

Ah see this is the type of info I need that i wouldn't otherwise know.

Most important is the helmet.

Bell make the best helmets at the best prices. Better than the most expensive ones safety wide but otherwise lacking in features.

Personally I'm a Shoei man and will never touch a Shark helmet ever again.

Everything else is pretty much a free for all and you can judge quality in store.

I have Frank Thomas jacket, RST gloves, Alphinestars pants and Sidi boots.

Worst you can do is trying to buy it all from one brand, because they aren't all great at everything.

Get waterproof boots from the very start.

Oh and you want a helmet with the built-in sun visor. But you don't want to buy a crap helmet to get it. So either go with a good brand and forego it, or upgrade models.
