Sidi Adventure, like half shin height.
Mainly because the knee high boots aren't waterproof :p So little less protection for the odd non tar excursion, but I can use them for the commute

I've been using the Thor half boot, its very comfy and durable, only on technical off road rides, I tend to knock my shins on my beemers boxer heads. So I'm going to get a pair of Forma Terrain TX boots next...

Too short!
Made that mistake with my first pair of boots that I thought could do double duty. Rain pants eventually slide up like 0.001mm above the boots and the water goes WHOOOSH into the boots

Considering my Sidi's are actually pretty decent until the water breaks through the zip that wouldn't be too bad.

But my pants are also overly long with ties at the bottom.

Was hoping for something that I could wear all day like a normal person. Apparently that's not to be.

Works out way more than conventional financing.
Also, because of the special, 883's became very common and the market is now flooded with them. Not good for resale value.
Then again, they've become somewhat the corolla/citi golf of Harleys, so parts will become common / cheap in the near future. (this is speculation though).
883 is nice, but you're gonna be crying for more power/torque very soon.

A buddy who used to work at HD cape Town bought one in Jan. By March he was itching for more power.

I bought a 48, and am loving it. Also a sportster but 1200cc.
 
Buell remains my first choice.

But a proper Harley I would like a Nightrod Special very much.

That being said I haven't ridden an HD in a while and there are a whole lot of new models on the market now.

Oh don't worry I know all the HD guys quite well, since I owned a Buell and also reviewed some of their bikes at one point.

Prefer Tygervalley though. Cape Town has some questionable mechanics, at least when it comes to Buells.

Thinking of buying a second hand 883 - and when I'm 120% comfortable on bikes again - flog it and get something bigger new.

The solvents in kerosene or paraffin will perish o'rings (assuming you have an O or X ring chain). Rather use something like prepsol and a toothbrush. Rinse with water. Let it dry. Then apply wax/oil.

34000km later I'm yet to clean my chain on this bike at all...

If you feel you absolutely must, just buy chain cleaner from a bike shop. Make sure to lube it back up with chain wax right after.

Also best to use chain wax coming home from a ride when the chain is hot, that way it doesn't fling off.

I cheat horribly on this since going back to a chain and when I get home in the week that I got the 1500km notification from Fuelly then I park the bike and spray the bit that is visible between the two sprockets.

Next night I do the next bit that is showing, rinse repeat etc.

No need for a second pair of hands or "walking" the bike.
