i watch royal jordanian and snowcat on youtube both use side mounted cams, so i just got used to it. i don't feel that it blocks out too much. the helmet comes standard with those leds in. front and back. its the shark Skwal. 1 up from the s700. i got lucky as full throttle was having a special 15% off so i used that to get the better helmet at the same price i was already willing to spend. so much to do so little money, i now was a Sena or similar device to comfortably take and make phone calls while riding and maybe some soft music for the longer rides.

I use those Garmin cams, very impressed with them. I have 2 mounts on my helmet, side and top. I mostly use the side mount. Only a little bit of my peak comes out in the footage (I use an Arai TX4). Also the weight is barely noticeable for me, even over rough terrain or at speeds on the freeway. I don't push too fast tho, only touched 180 once, usually cruise around 130 to 140 (2015 R1200GSA).

I did extend my cam more off the side of the helmet though given I do have a peak. So for a normal full face closer might be fine. See pic...

Damn if it wasn't so close to sasolburg I would have said let's meet for a coffee on my way down with the new bike next week.

Where are you picking up the new bike?

Looks good, which mounts did you use to extend it? The virb elite is going for R1799 on takealot, there was an unboxed deal at R1440, so I took it, everything in the box was still new sealed all with plastic wrap still on, just the box was already opened.

At that price (even full price) the cam is amazing, camera's 3 times the price don't have the features it has.

I didn't have much of a choice, I only have a tiny screen, so at...erm..."enthusiastic"...speeds a camera on the side of the helmet will try to rip my head off.
So front mount it was. Have to tidy it up tho, cut off all the pieces not needed and epoxy it all together.

@Zuner, I have so many GoPro attachments (Also have a GoPro 3 Black), so I used them for the Garmin. I hate the buttons and battery life in the GoPro. The on off slide switch on the garmin is genius, so easy to use. Plus the GPS info that you get for the ride is cool...

Yeah that button is brilliant, I saw the pics of the details it provides, the mount is still in its 24H adhesive phase, so I'll ride it tonight and see.

The garmin is more aerodynamic, so I'm hoping it won't give me issues, when I'm on the "closed circuit" roads.

I might look at a Garmin next. A slide switch makes so much more sense considering you're wearing gloves most of the time and GPS data could be fun :D

Currently using a Drift Stealth 2, mounted to the top of my helmet with the M3 tape attachment. Worked pretty well so far and quality is reasonably good (and so many options). But I'll definitely look at the Garmins next time.

Just had to look back on my purchase, I bought 2 of them for 1899ea from TakeAlot. The easy clip system is handy as hell, I charge one cam while riding, then switch over when the one is flat. I managed to record 3 full days of riding like that with almost no breaks. It was a 1200km ride through Lesotho twice... good fun!

@Hamster, the newer model Garmin you can link to your OBD2 with a bluetooth module... that could be awesome... get much more info.

so after some testing i see that my elite freezes when recording for extended times, just took a ride and it from on 43minutes. upon trying to figure out how to get it to show the gps speed overlay i loaded the virb pc app and it says there's an update for the elite. i'm on v2.9 the latest is v4.0 so i hope that'll resolve the issue.

Come to think if it, maybe GPS details like speed is not exactly the type of info you want on a video you'll potentially send to an insurance company

The garmin one is nice, if you take the video straight off the card it's just normal video, if you import the video to the garmin software it adds the gps info for you. So you have a choice.

Shouldn't be a problem on a Grom.

/sorry couldn't resist.

...

Don't care

Was looking at Z300 the other day as a possible upgrade come next year. Ever driven one? Seems small and light enough for what I like in a bike (I'm 5'5, not sure if I'm keen on a tall bike again but I do miss the scrambler I had).

Like a naked version of the Ninja I'm guessing?

I would say go straight to KTM 390.

Can anyone recommend a phone holder for a bike?
