I feel as if I've definitely outgrown the CBR250R.

Not that I have resources to upgrade, but I'm interested in suggestions that are budget friendly and something perhaps more versatile than a typical street bike (I'd like something that would be comfortable to ride from CT to PE, for example).

Honda NC700 / 750 is probably the cheapest thing that can do that kind of mileage while maintaining comfort, roughly 50k second hand. And it'll only take ±30L of petrol to do it

Note that you will be broken doing that distance in one day

I see there's space for a helmet on an NC700, which, in itself, almost has me sold.

I wouldn't go for any of the single cyliners, after an hour or two the thumping makes your bum too eina
There is a good reason why I sold mine and got a 1200 instead :p

Never ridden one, but must say they look nice. I'm a Beemer fan so I'd lean that way and have best of both worlds. A nice F800GS could be in that price range, but make sure it comes with a Top box!

Just got my bike serviced, 2.3K including a rear tyre.

need to do mine now, will be doing the labour myself, kawasaki part prices:
oil filter R203
spark plugs R159 each X2
oil 4L 15w50 semi synthetic R569

i then need to buy chain cleaner and lube/paste too. and maybe something to clean the filter.

The ER6's I recommended in the first place. :)

Or the NC700/750 since I've now met you and you should sit it comfortably. Not as pretty, but more practical.

But as was said above a second hand GS might get you a lot more bells and whistles for similar money.

Limp wristed I see.

Did that in one day on my Buell with no wind protection.

A more aerodynamic bike should make it a much more pleasurable experience.

THAT BEING SAID even with the perfect bike I draw the line at 500km if you actually want to have a nice trip and stop at your leisure and see the world.

It's not much fun just doing A to B rides.

i stand by the er6 choice, love mine, had a friend ride it today only complaint is its too low (he's pretty tall and bike set to lowest ride height.

I must say, I quite like the look of the ER6, and they seem to be the most available of the second hand options.

So the Grom got picked up today to go to Honda East Rand for quote/repairs. Here's hoping it won't take too long.

On that note, I've never owned an off road helmet before but thinking of getting something like the Bell SX1 + goggles. Anybody have experience with these for normal road travel/commuting? For higher speeds I've got my Shark which is more aerodynamic.

Nah, it's just like you said: Bulleting from A-B is not why I got a bike. It is also a very different affair when it is not smooth tar all the way ;)

the thing i notice most especially from non bikers, is that it looks like a supersport and not a street/commuter bike. a tail tidy and exhaust and it'll have most people fooled.
