Yep. Breaks my heart seeing her standing there every day. Honestly just don't get the time to ride her anymore. Not looking to make bank on her. Will let her go for R10K less than similar models available from dealers.

I do not own a car, but I have been in one. I can even drive one. its just not something I enjoy.

Ja nee. Don't get me wrong, I love being on my bike - nut this weather?! Fck no. Especially not with these impatient cars on the wet roads.

I only ever feel like that about 75% through a particularly tough one with wind and rain and floods or whatever and then I get to the end and realise the people I passed at 25% are now probably at 35% only.

Takes me twice as long in the car to get to work on a normal day. Rain or other bad weather three times as long.

Bike, pretty much the same every time.

Having the right kit for the job makes all the difference.

agreed. the right kit makes a massive difference. earlier this year before I had the rain suit I would take an Uber in this weather.

now I just gear up. only issue this morning was the low visibility because of the spray and then then the visor fogging up, but honestly I can live with that.

I'll agree with that.

But no amount of gear is going to guard you against impatient *******s skipping traffic stops and dangerously over taking. I can afford to be a bit late so I'll much rather be more comfortable in the car even if it means taking an hour to go to work (like this morning) instead of the regular 20-30 min.

I can finally join this thread as I bought my 1st bike this weekend. Its only a little Honda XR150, but its great to learn on.
After only about 100kms riding this weekend, I can already tell that I'm going to enjoy it

Question, is it bad to put on too much mileage on your bike per year? I'm calculating I'd cover about 15000km a year on my bike for what I use it, and I'm not sure if that's a lot... If one buys a new bike, say brand new and keep it 5 years, this 60000km.... Seems a bit much. It would be like buying a 2011 bike this year with 60k on the clock....

Thing though is, What did you r bike cost you? Actual price, plus maintenance and fuel. VS, what would a car have costed you over the same mileage?

I still have my car, and use it on rainy days. But man, the mileage i'm putting on the bike is saving me loads on fuel (had I used the car daily). In fact, the fuel saving is about 65% of the bikes installment!

I think it depends on the bike. A highly tuned sports bike, I'd be wary of high mileage. But a "chilled" touring type bike, sure. My dad does 60 000km in two years and that bike will still get sold quickly. Heck, that particular bike still gets sold at 100 000km and 10+ years. So ya, as Bunta says how long is a piece of string?

Do you need to go places or do you not need to go places?

I don't understand that mentality that worries about this stuff.

Use it for the reason you bought it.
