Even an F700GS is running close to 90k second hand... I don't want to by an overly old bike, to get a GS in my price range I'd be going to like 2006-7... don't know how wise that would be.

Gief price bracket! Sometimes I know of good deals floating about. I bought my bike via Facebook of all things, it was literally the only place the guy advertised :erm:

My dad's 1200 got written off (engine seized), can get that one cheap cheap :p Don't think the engine part is too important

LOL

MOTORbike :D

I dunno, looking around 70k I guess. Need to buy all the gear as well though.

Brain says Honda if it's commute and all tar on weekends... cheaper to run and to buy. You'll certainly feel the lack of oomph when two up but just twist that throttle a bit more and it'll be fine. Upgrade in 1-2 years if the bug has bitten hard enough ;)

Don't assume that. They have a valve check on the very first service which is a monstrous surprise to most.

But with the purchase price it probably evens out.

Watch me DIY that fcker :D

I won't be buying new though.

OH yes that's right.

In that case should be plenty of good deals around.

Also the automatic option isn't bad if you want to go that way.

If you do your licence on a DCT... are you allowed to ride a manual bike?

there are some 1200GS bikes available around your price range (and they are kitted out already, so all you need to worry about is gear). If you are going to pillion, definitely above a 650cc.
I would worry more about mileage rather than put too much emphasis on year.

97000km? Sounds scary.

I believe with bikes it doesn't matter.

Can do it on a scooter.

But don't quote me on that.

From what I can see, only difference is engine capacity.. > 125 = code A, <125 = A1?
I do quite fancy that honda dct :D

I thought they put a restriction on your license to automatic only. Similar to how they do it with cars....

Don't you have some other high mileage cars? The same applies to bikes, the cutoff mileage is just different. Sport bikes would be low but the thing about most dual sports is that the bike is tuned more for torque than power, and rev quite low (for a bike). So 100,000km is not that bad. I know of at least 4 bikes in WC over 200,000km (1150, 2x1200, 650)

I'd still opt for the NC though which I'm sure you'll find at 20-30,000km
