Anyone interested in the Versys 650 I posted in classified a few weeks back ?
If not I'll put it on consignment or gumtree it
But ; if you want a fully kitted reliable sub 1200cc expedition bike with BMW TOURATECH panniers ( with BMW locks)
I urge you to consider the Versys as new TOURATECH panniers are now 37,000 zar per SET
And I will include mine for add on special price to MBB riders.

Well if he has ridden a 250/300 before and is comfortable with it in traffic then 650 shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure somebody will differ with me though
i agree, as an enthusiast a 650 is the perfect beginner bike.
What do you think about the Hyosung though, as a brand. will it serve him well?

No idea. My opinion of it is that it is among the better of the crap bikes and @R35k it does sound like a decent price. Personally I'd rather look at something like this: https://www.gumtree.co.za/a-motorcy...on/kawasaki-klr-650/1002203533700910005474409

Agreed. My brother has a 2004 (I think) one on the farm. Still runs, still climbs mountains, still goes on breakfast runs, still plays in the mud

After you address the doohickey, the deep hole issue, the pap front forks, the leaky rear shock, do the .22c mod, address the possible oil burning issues on 2008+ models, upgrade the subframe and footpeg bolts and remember to not wash it, since it is a KLR after all

My sister took delivery of a her BMW 310 GS this weekend. Took a ride on it on Monday evening. Good looking bike, surprisingly big and sturdy (it looked more compact in photos) and build quality seems genuinely good. Engine was underwhelming though but I don't know if that will improve a bit after the first 1000kms? Overall, I think it's a decent beginner bike (sans the price tag).

I think the engine will always be underwhelming to someone who has ridden any bigger bike.
It’s a case of needing to check our experience at the door.

its 310cc ... agreed. BUt fine for someone who is used to the CRF 250L or Rally. I had a good look at the 310 on Wednesday. I'm 6.5 and can say it did surprise me on the actual size. Looks mighty fine.

Definitely true. I think the thing that did my head in was sitting on a bike that doesn't seem small/compact at all. This immediately makes my mind jump to the assumption that I'm going to get a lot of grunt when I engage the throttle. It's not terrible but definitely a bike that's well suited to someone just starting out.
It does indeed. My sister's going to have a ton of fun learning on it.

He has business cards now! I have to say, this dude is the best Instructor in Cape Town. I'll put a few dimes on SA too. I did my advanced riding with him too.
