I cannot stand Rain mode on my much more powerful bike.

Fortunately I can split out the traction and throttle options so have just setup my own "custom mode" for when it's really a **** show.

But generally even when wet I have it on full power mode.

As for ABS...I simply assumed the Honda has ABS across the range by now, that is a major oversight if it's still just on the DCT model.

****

FYI you can't really "limit" slip. If it's going to happen it's going to happen and it will really just change how quickly it responds to that slip.

Bikes being bikes it's not quite the same magic as on cars.

But in an argument of Bike with ABS + TCS over a bike with none it certainly wins, but on a bike that has it any way with different levels? I still call it a crock of ****.

Rain mode is more of a placebo effect (and sure it does work in that capacity) and not much else really. As for throttle it makes for a terrible experience.

The last thing you want in rain which is daunting in and of itself is a bike that behaves COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY than it does the rest of the time, which is why I don't use it.

what do you ride?

I've got a KTM 1290 super adv and it allows varying degrees of 'slip' depending on the street/sport/rain/off road modes, apart from cutting the 160HP down to 100HP depending on the settings - the throttle is also much less aggressive on the more cautious options

I've been riding bikes for many years and consider myself fairly skilled at riding, but switch to rain/off road mode when needed

R1200RS and in my case the 125 HP remains that so I can understand that dropping the 160 to 100 would be somewhat useful.

On a 690 though that doesn't matter.

And changing your throttle response to be different from the norm is just a bad idea in my book. It means you need to think harder about how to ride and that's not a good thing when the elements are against you.

Being on adventure tyres on the road would probably make the modes seem to be doing more as well

Maybe I just don't ride like a muppet but I'm yet to see my TCS come out in any mode when I didn't force it. Others maybe see it as an excuse to ride like a muppet and not compensate at all because the electronics are there to save them.

It's a nice to have but I wouldn't buy a bike for it.

I had a NC750DCT. It is still one of the best bikes I had to commute with. If I had to choose a daily commuter now I would probably go for the MT-07. Just has that little bit more punch when compared to the NC, and that makes a big difference when you need to get yourself out of a sticky situation.

that is honestly the only thing i miss on my NC. Pulling away from a robot, and seeing the other bike of similar cc pull off into the distance feels.... almost embarrassing :(

Thanks for the advice. I will do the course, and then get the bikes out for a test drive and take it from there. :)

As to the comment about the bike behaving differently in the rain vs normal, I did not think about that. So thank you for that.

Right, I need a jacket. I was looking at something like this.

Any other suggestions, we seem to be very limited in SA.

I've got the previous version, like it very much. It's got a few more features than most other jackets and has served me well for about 4 years now. Are you in CT? There are shops with better pricing than that.

bliksem, that's expensive, and looks exactly like the jacket i bought from hamster.... for R500 (and it included a pair of gloves) :crylaugh:

This is expensive... pants are another 8k...

Cape Town, I keep looking on revzilla.com and licking my lips at all the options. Can't imagine how expensive the import tax will be though.

Ya go look at motorcycle world then. Very friendly bunch and they should still be offering 10% discount if you pay cash/eft

My new ride. Cost R6000 and the insurance is R25. Fokol power though. Just going to use it between home and gautrain.

R6,000!? Are you serious? Or should that be R60,000? Regardless, congrats on the purchase!

It's R6k. No way would that bike cost R60k.

I didn't think so either, but I also thought not R6k. I guess if you're in an accident, it's going to cost more to fix it than just write it off and buy another one.

It's a Chinese bike? 125cc or less. Can't see why it wouldn't be R6k. (no offence intended)
