I wish I had a GoPro recording of what I experienced this morning and it definitely shows how biased cars are against motorcycles.

This morning I ended up in a queue at a T-junction to turn right. Due to the heavy traffic conditions the 5 cars in front of me were given gaps by the crossing cars in a 50 50 ratio to turn right. The moment I hit the front the gaps dried up and I had to wait for around five minutes to take a half chance to turn right.

Which is annoying, at the same time though, there was a traffic light not working yesterday afternoon in Sandton and I'm sure what would've been 30-40minutes in the car, ended up being a 10min split on the bike :) Would've been even less, but I'm taking it very careful.

So I'm ok to wait a bit when there is situations like this - will make it up somewhere else.

Do you ride on N1 from Centurion? I was riding behind a GS yesterday morning (after 8:30) for a while. Looked like a very cautious/new rider.

haha I was thinking the same thing about a guy on Sandton drive towards William Nicol. Let me past because with his ENORMOUS shiny brand new 1200GS with panniers the size of planets, he couldn't split very fast. But, 1200 not 800.

Haha! Not on the N1. You'll know it's me when you see a high-vis vest strapped around the backpack I'm wearing.

Been getting on with the lane splitting though.
 
I also saw a F800 lane splitting with the sun directly into the traffic's eyes this morning on the N1. This just might be a bad idea since nobody can see properly.

The only thing with splitting is when you encounter somebody ahead of you in the suicide lane and traffic now starts moving left to let him/her pass. This morning's ride in was lekker from Brakfontein till Allandale - avg speed was around 145km/h.

I avoid that section of freeway for that reason. Prefer going down the M1 and cutting through sandton.
 
Gosh, I often forgot how backwards and quite honestly stupid the regular posters on wilddogs are. Need to remember to stick to the trade section and not wander off

I haven't been active on there for years. All the good members have left due to all the politics on there. Sad, really :(

Thanks guy. Any specific cleaner and/or lube that you always buy? Or follow manufacturers advice.

A chain should be a chain and a chain, chain.

Some cleaners are not suitable for O-ring changes, so I'd identify your chain first, then go to a reputable bike shop and ask what they recommend to clean and lube it.

I've had bikes where I've cleaned the chain religiously since new and waxed it every 1000km.

Then I've had my Triumph Street Triple that I never cleaned the chain once but waxed it every 1500km or so.

I sold the Triumph at 34,000km with the original chain...whereas bikes I cleaned the chain and went balls to the wall anal with it I replaced the chain before 30,000km.

So do with the above as you will...either chains weren't as good back in the day (quite likely) or cleaning it makes absolutely jack **** difference.

I rate that Bel-Ray stuff from your link but also used Castrol in the past and it's much of a muchness really so buy whicever is cheaper on any given day I reckon.

However the advice I will give is buy a WAX only and not an oil spray lube. However only ever put it on when the bike and in turn the chain is warm on your return trip home.

That way the wax melts/bonds in place and also when you fire up the bike the next day it doesn't fling all of it onto the under tail of the bike.

No stand or anything required. Take a old toilet roll and cut it in half and just hold it behind the chain as you spray it between the two sprockets and then walk the bike up or down the drive way to expose another section. At best you need to do this 4 times and if you stick to every 1500km it's really not worth the special stand and all that ***.

If you have a mate/wife at hand then you can just lift the bike onto the side stand so the rear wheel comes off the floor and then just spin it and spray, but honestly it's better/easier/accurate to just walk the bike a little bit.
 
I'm with you on this one SauRoNZA - If you don't ride through mud and dust all day long, it's more important to just keep your chain lubed

My bike is used mainly for tar riding, not much rain, and I have a manual chain oiler, that I give a twist every 300km - bike has done 16k km now and chain and sprockets are perfect

When I wash the bike, which is VERY seldom, I mostly just clean the sprocket (not the chain)
 
So to follow up, here's my Vespa FPV.. :p

Sound quality is a bit lousy, don't have my usual external mic plugged in cos that's in my motocross helmet and I'll be darned if I'm gonna wear a motocross helmet on a Vespa. :D
