Weird how when you say to someone, "I'm going to such and such a place and I'm going to walk", they don't get all hot under the collar, since over 4000 pedestrians died on SA roads last year in 2017. Compare that to only 166 motorcyclist fatalities. So you're statistically 24 times more likely to be killed walking somewhere than riding. To me the logic is clear. If you have to go somewhere, take two wheels instead of two feet! :)

But I'm on phone

One thing that no amount of riding courses can prepare you, if how quickly you get gatvol, for is the dreaded:"O, you ride a motorcycle -the friend of my uncles hamster breeders' hairdresser rode a motorcycle - and he died."

I've jumped between just saying something like:"Well, it's something that I've always wanted to do" all the way to:"Well, my uncle was unhappily married, and he killed himself, so you win some you lose some."

What's your go to answers?

I ride a bike because I can't afford a second car but I'd love to own one. The banks won't finance me, could I borrow some money?

Were you the frogger or the frogee? Tell us more...
Lane splitting, see a guy crossing between the cars, too late to stop brace for impact... Well already leaning into it as if to hit him with the shoulder... No idea how he just rubbed my shoulder lightly, must have been running a cheat code or custom mod

Damn! Where was this? Nice to know which areas to be extra alert for.

On a side note - what a difference a new chain makes. I noticed mine had some stiff links, it started making all sorts of noises. Lovely to have a new one. Can recommend BikersWarehouse - they quoted me on a D.I.D O-ring, didn't have anymore in stock when I got there, so they gave me a D.I.D X-ring instead for the same money. :)

This is literally everywhere and most of it stems from these fekking taxi drivers allowing people to get off the taxi when they stop at a traffic light. On Grayston, near the BP (just before Rivonia) it is our future generation who are thick as bricks and too lazy to walk up to the robot to cross were it is safe.

Fair enough. :)

Anyone else finding the vendors on Malibongwe aggressive lately? As I go down there, they like standing in the middle of the lane as much as possible. Literally only moving when you start aiming for them.

I had a boemelaar shouting "FFS!!!" as I approached him a couple of days ago

I always aim for them regardless, and i come in hot, though within my braking limits. they jump out the way.

Almost lost a life today in frogger...

I've picked up a frogger at 40km/h or so and carried him a good distance on my lap at which point he bounced off and said "Sorry boss" then bolted.

Figured I must have cracked windscreen or something at least but short of mirror folding in no damage at all.

I have however hit a highway frogger at great speed with just the slightest touch of my elbow after a very very very close near miss and I was hurting for a few days so can only imagine what he felt like without leathers.

Annual service,

New chain, new sprockets, + normal service :erm:. I am feeling a good R6k or R7k bill incoming :(

Shouldn't be that rough.

Chain + Sprockets should be R2000-2500 with service about R2k.

But I don't remember which bike you have.

Triumph Tiger 800xc

Chain and Sprockets are R4400 alone apparently.

Edit,

I really wish I had some mechanical bones in my body, might be able to do some of this myself. Beyond adjusting my chain slack and lubing the chain I am basically a retard... Mechanically.

That is ****ing ridiculous.

At the same time I put 36,000km on my Street Triple with original chain and sprockets.

I've changed sprockets on bike without even removing chain but you need a chain tool to do the job properly on the chain itself.

If you've adjusted chain slack before it's not really a much more technical job.
