Since we are on the subject, what is the purpose of the peak on an adventure helmet if it just catches the wind, I can't imagine it's to keep the sun out your eyes coz the peaks seeem too high to be of any help.

It does help with the sun, just not when it's too low to make a difference. Typically the upright sitting position on an adventure style bike leaves one more prone to sun on the face. Some peaks catch the wind worse than others. The Arai TX4 was horrible for me, the BMW adventure helmet seems way better.

Someone here at the office has a similar camera setup, not the ice-cam though, and he says that the quality isn't what he expected, also the angles isn't always ideal. So he just went and bought a helmet mounted camera as well, but the other cameras are wired in and always recording so that helps.

That looks about right although I seem to remember the cameras being more bullet shaped.

It’s a fit for purpose tool of just having evidence of what happened. You aren’t going to put it on YouTube.

As you say with the always on factor there is also nothing to remember about pressing record.

From the km's on the bike my guess is that they standardized on those as the loan bikes. Similar situation happened December last year.

I tend to be late (from their perspective anyway) when dropping my bike so I seem to always get something off the floor.

IMHO mainly to look cool.....
My last two helmets all had peaks and I never fitted them - I often do higher speeds and have managed the sun well enough to not bother with that extra

I seem to remember an episode of the bike show where they were interviewing someone who stated that they are trying to work with government to remove the taxes on helmets but they having no luck. No sure on the facts though.

Yeah keep on riding, unless of course you didn't do up your strap then your helmet may become dearly departed.

I don't do higher speeds and often travel in dusty conditions where the shade offered by a peak means the difference between being able to see the road or having to ride with the visor open due to the dust on it lighting up like a Christmas tree.

I've said it before, it's all compromises.

I see a few guys in traffic in the morning with Go-Pros attached to their helmets. Can any helmet take a Go-Pro or must the helmet come with a specific bracket or attachment point?

Almost any helmet will be fine. You buy an no-name brand kit (or the offical GoPro mounts if you are a lahnee) for R300 from Game or somewhere and you get a crap ton of mounts and adhesive pads etc. Some curved, some flat, many grips, extensions etc. Then you fiddle and fart and find a way that works best for your helmet without obstructing your movement:

I did that (lanyard to handlebar) when I temporarily mounted it to my windshield using the crocodile clip (bad idea) and it saved my GoPro within 3km of leaving home. But the helmet mount is very secure, ridden at high speeds for many km and it hasn't budged.

Very true, I also prefer it on the chin but the problem with my helmet is the chin has those air grille thingies. No flat surface to mount.

Yup mine has a V shape there so even the curved mount I can’t trust.

I also have a chin vent so mine goes on top, and I don't feel it there at all, could be due to the small size of the GoPro session.
