my brain just wants to see it all as one.

Same here.

Rpm the reason I asked is because wide screen usage should me maximized IMO since it is the most popular format these days. You can do that by horizontally utilizing more screen estate so there is less scrolling involved for users especially once they have reached their desired section or a particular section so maybe making the columns horizontal might help a lot?Just an idea try it out if you guys not keen on going back to the old look.ads could be in a vertical column on the right creating distinction yet effective since I cant imagine many people scrolling down looking for ads but the ads will still attract attention as they scroll down.

You could even create more value for your advertisers by placing relevant ads to the right of the relevant section so it hits the spot and target audience..:)

Thanks for the feedback so far - it is definitely valuable. It is a fair departure from the previous design, and we tried to use the screen real estate better, and make the design simpler.

However, if it does not achieve this, we will make the changes which you require.

Can you maybe also give feedback on the new article layout (with the large image at the top) and the category design?

New article layout: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/security/71816-recording-the-websites-you-visit-mtn-explains.html

New category layout: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl

Article age would be nice, like number of hours/days since it was published.

One thing I found ironic were all the negative DSTv stories using the brand as the image. At a glance it looks like Multichoice is a big advertiser.

New look requires much more scrolling. That's a loss for me, as despite it 'looking nice' usability is just much more important.

Dont like this change at all, everything looks so huge! Old one was 100 times better looking...
+1
Maybe it wasn't better looking but certainly more compact and easier to get an overview of what is going on.
Some of the story headlines also wrap around and text on other text looks messy.

New one is confusing. Old one is better:

Don't like it at all. Old one was better for quick and ease of use.
Excessive scrolling due to size of text and pictures. Not being able to differentiate between sections makes navigation painful.

For me, it's not an improvement.
Liked the old design. Good layout for me.

I'm not a huge fan overall but there are only a few issues IMHO:

1) The font (headline and body copy) make things feel a bit unrefined.
2) Having the breaking news section next to older headline posts feels very unbalanced.
3) The way individual sections cut off at different lengths and leave big chunks of white space make the site feel unfinished. I'm all for a collage-style layout with different sizes all fitting in to form part of a whole but then these actually need to fit together like they do at the very top of the page.
4) The use of dotted lines to separate older headline stories and general news being different to the solid lines separating breaking news (or rather left side column versus right side column) is another thing that makes the site look unfinished.
5) The main background ad (currently Office 365) spills over slightly into the center info section, see image below. This would be fine but the spill on either side is a different size. Not sure if this is tied into my res (1366 x 768 at work) or not but something to look at perhaps.

I can't say I'm a fan. It's a bit cluttered. The main problem for me, however, is that the articles are fighting for attention with the ads, and at this point the ads are more noticeable.

They are both terrible.

What does the MTN image illustrate? Nothing. Maybe it is meant to give a hint that MTN will put you in metaphorical chains.
For the categories the images are just a waste of space. Again they seem to have little to do with the article other than supply some information which can be gleamed from the headlines. Unless every category has its own individual picture there is no point to them.

I hate it!!

The last one was awesome. This one is scary.

And in chrome the top 2 articles are underneath each other, not next to each other, so there's a huge whitespace in the middle of the page.
