Hi all,

I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 with SP1.
I tried installing MySQL 5.1.24 x64 yesterday but it won't work...

It installs fine, goes through the configuration fine. But won't get passed starting the service.

The error I get is: 1146 (mysql.servers) cannot be found

Anyone got any advice?

Thanks Lib but that article seems to be more about MySQL v4....
I'm really not too clued on fixing stuff like this :-\

Got a better idea for you. Get yourself Wampserver. It has php/mysql/apache and works great on Vista (I use it for web development and am happy with it). It does absolutely everything for you, but you can still configure it as you would a manual install.

No problem. In December (before a properly Vista-compatible version of WAMP was available) I spent two weeks trying to get it working and finally gave up and installed XP again. The current version works without any hiccups. It's around 25MB or so (including mysql, php, apache)

Cool thanks, I don't mind the file size.
I had endless issues a while back getting PHP to work with MySQL so one installation would be awesome ;-)

It really is awesome. It also has a little systemtray icon and you can open phpmyadmin from there, restart services, edit configs and add/remove php services from there.
