N00b fibre question

They've started laying fibre around our apartment/down the road etc. I just wanted to know how long it takes from this moment to it actually being a usable service?

Where do you stay and do you know who the provider is that is lying the fibre?

Unfortunately fibre in ground does not translate to residential fibre being available. e.g. that might just be Voda/MTN hooking up one of their towers. It improves odds, but does not make it a sure thing.

Your best bet is to check on the DFA fibre map thing...don't have a link, but google it...there is google maps type thing where you can see exactly where their fibre is. Next ask whatever neighbourhood community is in place whether anything is being organised...usually it takes a coordinated effort to get X people to sign up.
 
Fibre laid into our town house complex and work completed some time ago. I preordered when they were installing the infrastructure done two weeks ago. I'm not sure how much longer I need to wait. No indication of this provided. I suppose it'll only be possible to give me an ETA when the infrastructure is live?

You should start a separate thread...Anyway....

Just hassle them bro.

Just make very sure you hassle the right party though. The town house board tends to be random people trying to help for zero pay...so don't screw them over with unwarranted grief.

So I'd politely ask the rep what the situation is & then take it from there. Equipping a complex is profitable & easy...so someone needs a foot up their arse...question is who.
 
Thanks guys. I happen to know it's Octotel. Just wondering how long it takes before they can actually offer the service because then I may be tempted to pre order.

Where you from? Octotel just laying fiber here too saw them run some blue cable into the manholes. Vredekloof Square Complex myself

Well in that case first clients in Phase 1 are set to go live at start of August i already ordered my line through CoolIdeas and they will follow up for me and give me a call one its close to going live but ETA is 4-6 Weeks from now.

Best to confirm what Phase you are on and ask Ocotel on Facebook about progress
 
So I see what we're going live in this month (July). Should I order directly through Octotel or Cool Ideas? Only reason is that I've only heard good things about Cool Ideas.

I placed an order with Cool Ideas, got an order number waiting for install date. last i got was August/September though but if its July i would be over the moon

Where did you get that date from though?

We place the order with Octotel who would then reach out to you with an installation date.

I did the same and ordered through Cool Ideas. The Octotel website indicates on the map that the first clients would be activated in July.

Must not be in Welgelee then map shows to be live August only but time will tell have been getting mixed dates. Will let you know when Octotel issues an install date.

Either of you have any updates? I'd be in phase 3 so knowing when phase 1 goes through would give a better indication of the real timeline
 
Phase one here was told end of August but see they have installed distribution boxes under the stairs the start of this week no progress elsewhere
 
Hi all, thanks for the post.
I'm moving into Vredekloof Square end of this month.

The agency have posted that there is Fibre available in Vredekloof Square?
From what I've read here this is not the case yet?

If there is fibre there does anyone know what provider?

I've checked almost every coverage map available for the top providers and i cant seem to find availability in this complex.

I fall under phase 4, very excited for them to start trenching in August somewhere. Sadly Im not quite so sure about that since phase 2(Mid July for trenching) hasn't even started yet, unless their map is outdated.
