N95 poor battery life

I think those N95 owners that thought they would get a week's worth of life out of their batteries, with all the bells and whistles attached to their device, probably also believe in tooth fairies. Its something you have to except given the size and built in features.

The battery as supplied with the N95 (BL-9F) is a 950mAH unit and its also Li-ion - one of the better battery technologies for size / capacity ratios and I can't really see Nokia releasing another battery that will make a significant difference in hand set up time between charges. I have seen reports from owners of V10.x firmware saying they have seen better battery life (or perceived battery life) when they moved to the version 11.x firmware. There is still probably more that can and will be done in future firmware to get better battery life.

I get about 2 days life out of my N95 (V11.x), but one issue I have noticed is that after a full charge, the battery indicatior spends a full day with all the battery bars showing, but once it has lost 2-3 bars, it tends to go flat quickly after that. This suggests that the battery monitoring firmware is not quite optimized for the battery yet and hopefully it will also be corrected in later firmware.

I would not expect the E90 to fair any better in the battery life department, especially given the past communicator's showing in this area.

Well I knew of the bad battery performance before hand, and still decided to get the phone. I am not disappointed that I did.

My 9300i lasts five days on one charge (and I'm using it a lot) - so the communicators aren't doing too bad.

A battery life of one to two days on a communication device sux imo. For me the phone and all the other stuff should remain seperate until a better battery life becomes possible. I can just imagine what people will be saying/writing about the N95 a year from now when the enchantment has worn off and honesty kicks in.

I do expect the E90 to be heavier on batteries than my 9300i - but one to two days on a new battery would be unacceptable to me. If I have to carry a charger with me wherever I go it defeats the object of having a light/compact all in one road warrior solution = the target market of the E90.

Nope it can't - but you can buy a little adapter that plugs into your USB port and then into the power socket on your phone and you can charge like that. It is fairly cheap.
 
I found it very funny that all the n95 fanboys are defending the phone's poor battery life, instead of demanding that Nokia release a new battery for it.

Let's use Piesang's 'car' scenario - would you buy a new Audi RS4, if you knew that you have to fill it up every 50 kilometres?

Audi is not a Nokia so they will not buy it :D. Some people will drive Nokias if it had wheels.

Wont the size of the battery matter? The E90 should have a bigger battery hence it will be longer lasting???

Yes, unfortunately some people will go through their whole life with a Nokio. Shame.

If we had a valid Nokia entity to complain to in this country - I just might

On the bright side, I've never used the cigarette lighter thingy in my car before - at least the car charger makes it useful now *haha* :D

I hope so. I really want more than two days. I absolutely hate being caught without juice on my cell's battery (no, I'm not refering to Mr Juice spilled on the battery). No juice no cell. When it comes to buying cell phones and laptops battery perfomance is paramount for me. It's no use having gazzillions of features when the gadget's run out of juice.

If the Audi RS4 could do 500km/h I would have no problem filling it up every 50km's! You have to look at the big picture, if you want the features, then you have to pay a price, maybe in a few months time someone brings out a handset with more and better features than the N95 and with a battery that lasts for 3 months, but right now that does not exist.

I have learnt to live with the battery life and if I had the option to choose another handset right now I would take another N95.
 
My other worry is if I go away for a weekend on a bike trip you are least want the battery to last for the weekend. I dont want to get stuck along the road with a flat battery.

I have been using a Samsung D600 and the phone is small and sleek and work great. The mp3 player is not as good as my Ipod and the camera is not as good as my Digital.

But then hey you have to buy a phone that works for you... you cant say that the N95 is the best.... I dont sit the whole day and watch movies and play on the net... I have a work to do and the phone needs to work with me to get my job done.
 
My decision on a new phone was always between the N95 and the Tytn. I ended up making a pro's and con's list between the two, and the N95 eventually won based on features that I wanted in a phone.
The P990i never even came into the equation... it's dog ugly :p
 
My experience:

left home with a full battery at 7am

used 2.5 hours of GPS ( I was the passenger and i must say, even without the voice navigation enabled, it worked 100% )

made and received plenty calls

Surfed online for about 1 hour whilst GPS was running

Took 3 photos

listened to MP3s for about 15min

Returned home in the evening and changed simcards ( takes battery to switch on and off )

Put phone on charge at about 10pm with low battery warning

i dont think thats excellent nor bad...i can live with it...i had my car adaprtor with me incase but did not use it in order to test

( if u have a car adaptor, i think u should not have any problems..)
pity that USB charging was not built in via the supplied USB cable...

all in all: this is THE best phone i have ever used
