Name and Shame: Unauthorised Debit Orders Thread

I reversed using the Nedbank Money app and was charged R5. It's a non-amount since the time required to dispute it is worth much more than R5 but I plan to anyway since I need to go to the branch this week to get a new card. I'm going to talk to the branch manager and explain that it's their responsibility to determine that the debit order was not fraudulent or refund my R5. Why bother? Because I expect to get hit by these fraudulent debit orders more often now, based on what others are saying about the increased frequency being generally observed.

I used to report on unauthorised debit order abuse for Moneyweb. Today I noticed that I've been scammed by the same people referred to in this thread. Reference is NCONNUPS15_8739 - INS PREM 1351646251. Amount is R99.

It is not enough to simply reverse the debit order. These criminals must suffer some consequence. I doubt they will ever see the inside of a jail cell, but it is possible to name and shame them publicly.

First step is to identify the recipient of the money. Insist on a company registration number. If it is a sole proprietorship, insist on an ID number. Second step is to ask the recipient for proof that you subscribed to their 'service', whatever it is they purport to do.

Anyone who has fallen victim to this scheme is welcome to contact me for assistance. I will most likely write an article for publication on Moneyweb. Julius at Moneyweb dotcoza.
I have the same issue this was debited on the 2nd NOV, I am getting full details from Bank & will be opening a case against the company. Please let me know what details you need to get this ball rolling.

Yep, looks like UPS gave me the wrong details.

So Capitec Bank gave me the incorrect details for UPS, and UPS gave me the wrong details for NConnect.

Capitec Bank charged me R40 to reverse the debit order. The debit order itself cost R3 or so.

There is something seriously wrong with this system. Infuriating.

A whois for Plus Benefits reveals one Mongezi Ngcamu. Google him and you find out that he's been in the illegal debit order game since at least 2014. So why the f*** is he not on a bad user list?!

Why are companies like Telkom entrusting his company with outsourcing is another question.

anyone know where this umvuso payment solution is. i will go there personally.

I also got a mystery debit with the reference "UPS NCONNUPS15 78721", called Standard Bank and got it reversed but not without them trying to charge me R60 for reversing the debit order. After much fighting I got that reversed too. Did a little digging into this Umvuso Payment solutions and found the following:

Was also able to find the LinkedIn profile for one of their directors : https://www.linkedin.com/in/nkululeko-musi-419b0344/

I've already also opened a complaint with PASA. Dont know if any of this will have any affect but here's to hoping...

That mobile number also belongs or belonged to Nkululeko Musi, who is the Business Development Manager at Umvuzo Payment Solutions.
(He also apparently worked for VBS)

Also got hit. Luckily I check my accounts every two to three days. Posted screenshots on Facebook of the transaction on my account, the CIPC site and the LinkedIn profile for Nkululeko Musi. Tried phoning all the numbers to no avail. Asked Absa to reverse the debit order and block UPS. If Absa charges me for the reversal, I'll make them reverse that charge as well. Hulle gatte; I won't pay for them not having security measures in place to ensure that only authorised debit orders go off.
Will open a complaint with PASA, too.

So i have never had an unaithorized debit in my life, till 2 months ago. Bank reversed it free of charge, standard bank, and gave me the details of the payment authority that did it. I called them they gave me the details of the 3rd party company that did it. I called them they were doing on behalf of another company called Royalty Rewards.

When i spoke to the 3rd person in the chain, they explained to me that they sent an SMS to a number that I closed on Vodacom 5 years ago. They said they used that as confirmation to proceed with the debit order, so , my bank details, still with Vodacom authorized an unauthorized debit?

Now, 2 months later i get another and its the same one, bank sms'd me the details of the pay authority, Umvuzo Payment Solutions, 031-1100820/0792123947. No answer as yet.

Edit- call returned and given another number 031-3010640

This has happened to me as well. I phoned Nedbank, they reversed the illegal debit order but will not reverse the
bank fees for unpaid debit order. Banks like nedbank enjoy this cause they can make alot of money from insufficient funds in the account

Capitec only charges like R5.something for a bounced debit order

My colleague who was hit, has been talking about it with people and a lot of her family and acquaintances have been hit.

Imagine they successfuly hit 10 000 people, that's R990 000 right there, almost R1 mil. Imagine that they manage to keep fund from 100 000 accounts, an easy R10 mil (R9 900 000).

Also imagine the amount of money the bank makes in fees, either the debit order fee or rejection fee.

Same has happened to me. Saw the same debit order for R99 being deducted from my account for UPS on the 02 Nov 2018. Phoned ABSA today to query and they immediately knew who the company was and asked whether the debit order needs to be reversed. Waiting to see if they are going to charge me for this.

What I would like to know is if so many people have reported the issue that the call center knows about this, why have the banks not done something about this? Why are they still allowing these false debit orders to be created?

When I reversed the debit order , Nedbank charged R5 , so that banks will never stop these transactions, it's money for them. They know the culprits, have the gone ahead and ever opened criminal charges against them ?
Never will they do that.
