Need help Network cable

When I came home today my internet was offline, I trouble shooted the problem and it told me that my internet cable is not pluged in or broken. I then took 4 other cables (one of witch I am sure works) plug it in but had no succses. The laptop that is connect wirelessly is still working fine. What could be the probleme, it might be the network card but how can i test that? What is your toughts? Please help.

There was a lighting storm on tursday but every thing was working fine this morning when i left for class plus my pc was off at the time of the storm. I am running windows 7

Ja, on or off makes no difference... if it is plugged in, it can be zorched.

If you are going to unplug your PC during a lightining storm, then remember to also unplug all telephone lines and network cables.

Otherwise it is better to leave it all plugged in so that it is at least earthed.

Anyway, it doesn't take much to blow a NIC. Just go buy another one and install it.

Hmmm ok will check that out but I dont understand why the damage would affect the card a few days later.
