Good day, I have recently gotten adsl, everything is with Telkom except we've gone with mwebs 199pm uncapped. The problem is that after setting up the router (also from Telkom) the dsl light just flashes, no internet connection. everything is brand new so I don't think the filters need changing. I verified the adsl connection at www.telkom.co.za/verifyadsl and I got "Your ADSL Service request has already been processed" so what could be the problem? thanks in advance.

Who is your ISP and is the username and password properly configured on the router?

My isp is mweb as stated above and yes the username and password provided by mweb have been configured into the router

My router is the D-Link wireless n adsl2+ 3G USB Router (DSL-2750U)

Here is some info on my settings

VPI/VCI = 8/35
VLAN Mux = N/A
Service Name = PPPoE_0_8_35
Protocol = PPPoE
IGMP = Disabled
QoS = Disabled
NAT = Enable
Status = Unconfigured (This is what I think the problem is but can't find out why it is not configured, how do I configure it???)
Action = (BLANK)

Read my old post :)
Here's how it would be done on a D-Link DSL-2500U for an Mweb account, so I'd guess that its similar for the DSL-2640U on Telkom:
in the Web interface, do the following:
  1. Go to Advanced Setup -> WAN
  2. Remove all existing WAN interfaces
  3. Add a WAN interface
    • Port=0, VPI=8, VCI=35, Service Category=UBR without PCR, Unselect Enable Quality of Service
    • Select PPPoE over Ethernet (PPPoE) & Encapsulation Mode=LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING
    • Enter your username ([email protected]) & password, Leave Authentication mode=auto, Leave Obtain default gateway automatically selected, Select Keep alive PPP connection, Leave Dial on demand unselected, Leave Static IP address unselected, Select Bridge PPPoE Frames Between WAN and Local Ports (this is for half-bridging / PPPoE Relaying / PPPoE Passthrough), Leave MTU=1492
    • Select Enable NAT, Select Enable Firewall, Unselect Enable IGMP Multicast, Select Enable WAN Service, Set Service name to something descriptive like: PPPoE_Mweb
  4. Save & Reboot

Now under Device Info, all the fields should be filled in!
And under Diagnostics, everything should PASS, except for the 2x ATM OAM F5 tests.

* Update:
With regards to your telephone connection: how did you connect the telephones & ADSL to the Telkom line?
Both the ADSL router/modem and the telephones MUST be connected via a (micro) filter to the Telkom line!
You can get a splitter filter (where you can plug in both a telephone and ADSL modem) from Telkom shop for like R42 or something like that.

* Instead of the username being something like [email protected], it would be something like [email protected] I suppose.

If you're using the D-Link router for a Wireless Access Point, then please ensure that you are using WPA2-PSK security.

Double check username, password and other settings etc etc in regard to the above.

Also make sure your network adapter's driver is installed seeing as everything is new.

OK, It appears the 2750U is slightly different, there doesn't appear to be an advanced WAN settings but there is Setup - Internet Setup which appeared to be similar to what you talking about so did everything you said, rebooted and still no internet, DSL light is still flashing. The internet info is as follows

Internet Connection Status = Unconfigured
Default Gateway = [Blank]
Both DNS servers = 0.0.0.0
connection up time = 0 day, 0 hour, 0 min, 0 sec
downstream line rate = 0kbps
upstream line rate = 0kbps

Is there anything wrong with this? if so how do I change it. I'm a noob to all this so yeah, sorry if I am a bit frustrating.

the setup summery is as follows:

VPI/VCI = 8/35
Connection Type = PPPoE
Service name = pppoe_0_8_35_1
Service category = UBR
IP Address = Auto Assigned
Service State = Enabled
NAT = Enabled
Firewall = Enabled
IGMP Multicast = Disabled
Quality of service = Enabled

Is there anything here that is not correct??? if so what must I change?

Doesn't look to me like your DSL line is actually connected/synced at all.

Your ADSL line should be directly plugged into the wall socket/telkom box, directly plugged into the router, not through a filter. If you have a surge protector and it routes through it, try it with a direct line first as explained.

Nope, Still nothing, would it be my, Telkom or mwebs fault?

I had a Trendnet one, when I first bought it about a week ago (straight after signing up to get our adsl activated) and plugged it in to test its range it turned on but the DSL light never came on. about 3 days later Telkom sent an sms saying the line was active so we called mweb and got the 1mbps uncapped, I plugged the TrendNet router in and it did what the new one is doing now, I thought it was expected as I hadn't set it up yet. I set it up and rebooted but nothing, it carried on flashing so I turned the router off then on again then the light went off completely, just like it did before the line was activated. So we phoned Telkom (this was Wednesday) and they were scheduled to fix the line on Thursday, on Thursday our line went totally dead, before we could at least use the phone. then today Telkom sent an sms saying everything had been sorted out so I plugged the trendnet router in and nothing, not even a flashing light for DSL so we took it back and bought our current one from Telkom and it is giving this flashing DSL problem.

I did a self-install, and had a similar problem (although the DSL synced) - I wasn't able to access the internet. Turns out I had to go here (https://secureapp.telkom.co.za/ADSLVERIFY_NEW/) and verify the DSL line.

yeah, I did go there and got this message "Your ADSL Service request has already been processed"

will phone Telkom tomorrow and hopefully they can fix it sooon!!! I'm on my last bit of 3G cap

If the ADSL light is flashing it means your line isn't syncing

Also poor choice of ISP, have you received your abuse email yet, I'm sure that browsing constitutes as abuse with them :D

Hi There,
Yes the light should stay on solid when connected.
I would suggest you call Telkom and tell them the issue. You can encourage them to come out and test it as well.
You don't mention if you had Telkom or mweb talk you through the modem setup. They are often helpful in doing that as well but you need to be patient and follow them step by step.
If you have verified your line then placing a call is the best solution to the problem

Regards

Tim
