Hi all.

It's been a long time since somebody just needed some technical advice on this forum. Lately is just negativity and moaning (understandably so).

I am in need of some technical advice.
I host files on my machine at home, using MyWireless, but when I download them all binaries goes corrupt. Text files are fine. My setup is a Broadband (Gigabyte BR404) Router, that connects via PPPoE with my sentech paperweight. The router has 4 Lan ports to which the server in question is linked to. The machine is set up as the DMZ. When i access my Dynamic IP over the net, you basically see my machine and not the router.

Files hosted with IIS as well as numurous other FTP packages goes corrupt when downloaded from my office connection (DSL).

Files I download from home (MyWireless) over the net are fine, just hosting them is a problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance everybody.[:)]

mmm this is a wiered problem and im not a IIS fan ... so i cant help much make sure however you MTU is set right 1450 is my round off number of choice ...

It works on the local network.
Another weird thing:
When I connect to the machine with VNC using Zlib compression, i get errors and VNC quits. (Rect too big error)
When I use the RAW transfer mode, it works but I see graphical artifacts.

Where's the data being corrupted? My router? Mywireless?

Heya Shadow - is the VNC error happening on both lan and wifi modes ?

If so it may be the compression library causing the problems. As I recall that IIS supports HTTP compression .. The compression may not be enabled for pc's on the same subnet ... just a thought ...

this may be a bit of work for you but why don't you set up apache on the windows box on lets say port 81 and see if the download works there... would certainly help diagnose the problem.

if it works on lan and not remote and the error you described with VNC im almost 100% convinced it is a MTU setting .... the setting on the PC and the router are not the same ...

the problem is with mywireless not allowing pmtu discovery (type of icmp packet) but this can be fixed by setting the MTU on server to the same or lower then the router ...

Thanks looseCannon! That MTU setting sorted out by binary corruption! How will this affect my local LAN though? I've set the MTU to 1450 on my Network adapter.

there should be no noticeable problems at all and the local lan should be able to negotiate the correect rate fine the way it is meant to be done ...

glad to be of service ...
