NeoConnect Lite prices emerge

I checked with NeoTel and yes, the speed is accurate at 156kbps (not bytes). When I commented that it was very, very slow the guy acknowledged and said that it might change in the near future but that this was a very provisional indication of speed.

That's a shame, although there is still a tiny ray of hope. If the wireless tech they are using is actually similar to the 2.4Mbps tech you should get 156kbps constantly. If however they base it on some 158kbps wireless tech and you only end up getting 40-50kbps most of the time it will be another Proudly SA internet abomination (PSAIA).

All I can say is whats stated in my sig *sigh*

At this time - there is NO reason for me to move from my current ADSL to Neotel.
None at all...

Their uncapped offering is very interesting to me. We browse at home and I like to download podcasts. At the moment I am paying R588 in total for 384 kb/s ADSL and 5 gigs. We could use more than we are right now but have to cut back like mad towards the end of the month.

15 - 20 kilobytes a second and uncapped would save me money. I like speed as much as the next guy but at the moment it is the data cap and not the speed of my line that is affecting me.

If they let any CDMA device use their network, so I can import a PPPOE device damn it, and drop the 24 month contract rubbish I will probably sign up with them. They would meet my needs...

well if u can get 50gb off it a month then it is worth and then keep adsl or what ever u using and then use them as a secondary only for downloads

I never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never never thought I would see anything slower than my slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow Telkom HomeDSL384.

eish!

I can think of one :) Iiiiit's not Telkom :)

Its not good enough I'm afraid.
I'm not gonna pay for something inferior to what I have now and be contracted to it as well.
Their product offering and pricing does not suit my needs unfortunately.

I suspect they might be better off offering voice-only and internet-only packages.

I'm not interested in using them for voice, really, since I get free off-peak calls from Telkom (so I don't care that you can't use the net and the phone at the same time). I would be interested in using them for internet, at a price less than Telkom line rental + Axxess prepaid (so, R200-odd for 1Gig). But: I like my adsl modem/router; I'm not signing a 24 month contract; and I don't know what their coverage or reliability will be like, so I'm reluctant to go for a wireless solution.

And according to their ad, it's only available in parts of Jhb and Pretoria at the moment. I know it's a soft launch, but still.

With these kind of packages Neotel won't be swamped with new business.

They should be able to stress test their systems over a long period before rolling out the real stuff in a decade or so.

I currently pay R188 pm for 4GB international bandwidth at 384. The speed and latency of international bandwidth is of little concern to me. If say Neotel would offer me uncapped international at whatever speed... say 64kbps for R199pm I would sign up tomorrow or atleast whenever I can sign up.

This way I would keep my ADSL and use it for local bandwidth (high capacity, low latency, low cost), and then route all my international traffic over the Neotel connection (unlimited capacity, high latency, low cost/gb).

Just a thought... Use it... Don't use it... Your moms quite nice!

So referring to some posts way back in this thread.

So what we are saying is that this is South Africa, this is Africa...you will be ripped off...you will pay more because they simply don't have a business case to make things reasonable.

How about I will give them a middle finger? How about I will spread a nasty word or two about the company? How about if I meet the CEO in the street I will kick him in the balls? How about something for goodness sakes :D

I'm not saying Neotel is a bad company.....yet. I'm just saying if we are being so lax about it then we deserve to be ripped off :/ I still don't buy the whole financially viable thing though. I'm not asking it to be dirt cheap either...just reasonable. At least show them the demand.

That's not a reason.

'course it's a reason :)

They do need to fix some stuff but NeoTel != Telkom is a winner for me already. Perhaps some people don't hate Telkom as much as I do? :)

Q: Why switch to NeoTel?
A: Because it's not Telkom.

Q: Why set fire to that building?
A: Because it was Telkom.

Same sorta thing ;)
