Have to agree. with the above. I am in the market for the 10gb package. Just wish there was a ethernet version of their modem.

I can't see the point of changing the 24 month contract. It is already suitable for usage, as it will allow you to bail out on the usage. You are still forced to pay for the device that you lease from them. It is the same as going to Furniture shop and buying a couch, you will have to pay the out standing amount of the asset, if you wish to end the contract payment.
If you mean by addressing contract to allow you to return the device, and be liable to pay for the damages to the device, then yes sure. I would welcome the change to the contract. But it doesn't make sense. I welcome the challenge they've set to the other providers.
I also like the idea of wireless, means your independent, but how would they know if it is a national call to Neotel, if you picked up the wireless set and moved from Cape Town to Johannesburg. Will it still charge you national? Will you get a new number? Do they have to change their settings based on your location? I would have thought that South Africa don't have a need for "regional and national" sections any more but rather have one call rate like cellphones. It doesn't matter where you are, except MTN's bluff of a so called regional charges for "certain areas".
How ever I do have a problem that Neotel is asking more for national calls that are Neotel-Neotel than Neotel-Telkom in so called "off peak" period. http://www.neotel.co.za/neotel/view/neotel/en/page789. Nobody seems to care about this little fact.
No clarity when off peak occurs and how one will be notified that it changed. They should also add information about shaping and upload speed.

I so agree with the stop whining part.
I think people forget that NeoConnect Lite isn't really aimed at the broadband user (generally the people reading these fora)
for someone who has no phone or inet, this could be a good match

Exactly, this is their dial-up replacement which was talked about a long time ago. It's not really suitable as a plain broadband package, but if you want to get rid of your Telkom line, or never wanted it, (with the R109 rental) then this makes sense. Much better than dialing up at 56kb.
Everyone knows that they plan fibre/ADSL and a WiMax service with no voice component right? That is what we are waiting for, no point going crazy because their CDMA service isn't what we want.

If 156kbps unlimited @ R469 = ~50Gb/month
why not give us 2.4Mbps with 50Gb cap @ R469
Because this isn't a broadband package. They don't expect people to use this for downloading 24/7, it's a replacement for dialup with higher usage.
Obviously 50GB for R469 wouldn't make any sense.
If I go and buy a couch, I prefer to pay cash. That way it's all paid off, and I don't have any payments hanging over my head for the next two years. And I can go and sell my couch to someone else, if I wish.
That's what the contract takes away.
But if it's a replacement for dialup, it needs to be cheaper, since you can get entry-level adsl for <R200 per month.
It makes a bit more sense if it's for people in areas where adsl isn't available, or as someone else mentioned, for people who don't have a landline but want a landline-ish + internet package.
I misread the article and thought it doesn't include the modem for the price of R469.00. Should we even bother to then also ask if it includes Vat?
On that note I agree that they should provide a different package that excludes the device and still have the option to end within a month.
I hope they come through, they still need to address the problem that national calls are cheaper to phone from Neotel to Telkom than Neotel in off peak periods...

I also appreciate that Neotel is not trying to market NeoConnect as "broadband", or as something it is not (*cough* do movies *cough*).
The bottom line is simply that the pricing is not compelling enough. The 2GB Connect Lite bundled with "free" net minutes means the inevitable comparison with Telskum's POTS and Do 2. Yes, the Telskum option is, (with a few calls), R100 more, but it's ADSL.
All the "stop whining" and "so shut up" 4 post wonders can take their own advice. This forum is all about hammering out the pros and cons of various offers and trying to keep service providers honest. I have no love for Telskum either, but I'm going to consider my options carefully before moving providers.
Hopefully Seacom will allow Neotel to really offer the long-abused telecoms consumer real broadband and service levels at reasonable pricing.

But that is exactly what you are getting with the Lite package (just at a slower speed). My point is that if you are willing to give me 50Gb/month @ R469, why can't I have (capped) 50Gb at a faster speed?
Seacom should affect international traffic, but what about national traffic? How come they don't provide an unlimited 2.4Mbps to local for a far cheaper price? If international is so much more expensive, then surely we should see a package like that pop up for less than R200?
Well, all this is useless 'cause Neotel don't have coverage in my area. And I have been waiting for Telkom to install my mother $#@#ing telephone line for no less than 22 months.
I wonder if I should have a party when it reaches 24 months, 2 years and waiting for a telephone line, yipeeee!

Was reading through all the posts to see if someone would make the connection...
But I'm surprised at this, a bit like rolling out a EDGE network when you started with a HSDPA one. Must be very inexpensive for them to do it.
This issue is tied to LLU. I suspect that Neotel is prioritising SANReN on its fibre circuit.

You have a valid point though. I would also like to download from Tenet and other .ac mirrors at > 40KB/s, and without mauling my int. cap in the process.
This doesn't look good. Neotel's initial pricing structure indicates that when they finally offer full adsl (Seacom) the pricing will still be double that found in the northern hemisphere.... and with half the benefits.
To all those who claim that most of us on the forum are 'whining' I'd like to say that the time has come to start comparing apples with apples. That is to say we should be looking to European/US standards and pricing as our benchmarks and not at what is currently available here. Two examples below which represent what we should begin demanding from all providers in SA:

To all those who claim that most of us on the forum are 'whining' I'd like to say that the time has come to start comparing apples with apples. That is to say we should be looking to European/US standards and pricing as our benchmarks and not at what is currently available here. Two examples below which represent what we should begin demanding from all providers in SA:

Because that's not what they are planning to give you. They don't expect everyone to download that much, otherwise they wouldn't really be able to give you this package either.
They can't give you 50GB for R469 because they probably pay more than that amount for the bandwidth alone from SAT3.

I agree it could be a bit cheaper, but the 2Gb (unshaped too) package from them for R299 with the modem and any sort of "rental" isn't a bad deal. This isn't just replacing your ADSL. You would be able to cancel the R109 line rental which you have to pay to Telkom in order to have that ADSL line too.
Also all of the sub R200 deals are with only 1GB.
