NeoConnect pricing details

Ok fair. their offerings are iensie little cheaper than Telkom...But sill very expensive. The capped offerings seem like a rip off to me. How much profit will that be then? Telkom got physical lines to lay install etc..Neotel use air as their lines and still they charge just under Telkom pricing.

Telkom were given all of their fixed lines, in fact, all of their infrastructure. Neotel had to pay for all of their towers, fibre, etc without getting a cent in revenue. How must they pay for that stuff?

People will happily pay R300 for a couple of cell phone calls a month and then complain about paying R300 for 2GB of internet traffic, which just happens to be cheaper then everyone else on the market.

Well I'm complaining that I have to get two phones now to use broadband and telephone, and I have no clue how much a phone will cost per month...

I think we should cut Neotel a little slack. As their first offering these packages are really good. You guys saying you get a Telkom 512 with a 5gb ISP account for only a little more than the Neotel offering are also forgetting what ACTUAL throughputs you get on a Telkom 512 DSL.

The proof of the pudding is going to be as Neotel starts to sell their products with no caps or shaping is how this actually impacts on the user experience. Add 50 or so uncapped, unshaped P2P'ers to a tower and what happens to the tower's throughput/backhaul bandwidth.

I think the best thing to do is watch this new baby grow up a bit. Maybe watch it fall down every now and then. I think one thing we can all agree on is now we have more choice. Surely that must be a good thing?

for sure, Guns 'n Roses sing a brilliant song............Patience

the products on offer are of good value in all areas....

But what have we been waiting for since they started, when was it? September 2006 I think? For them to "test the product?" Seriously, They are rolling out only now? What did they do in their first 2 years?! That is probably why I am so disappointed. We thought they were rolling out, doing something, then their launch covers Joburg & 2 suburbs in PTA, when they did say Joburg AND PTA, not Joburg and 2 subs in PTA...

Oh well...I continue to wait.

they were testing so you did not have even more to complain about.

hell i reckon i should invite all the negative people here to my house so that you can test the speeds etc yourslef. i will even let you look at my last Telkom bill and then compare it to my forthcoming Neotel one. maybe the 1st grade mathematics will kick in then and we will all recognise a saving??????

i would have paid big bucks to have seen the threads going around when Cell C launched, because then you guys would have really been moaning. lol

have a lovely weekend all, and rest easy, 60 days at a maximum and Telkom will respond, so all you twisted pair fans will have your valued Telkom line and reduced costs again, but remember the big N can respond far quicker and aggressively. ;)

How can you compare your Telkom bill with the one from Neotel? They're selling two different products.

"Neotel is set to shake up the telecoms market with innovative service offerings". Who the hell wrote that?. Whats is he/she smoking? Bloody expensive. Please dont compare Neotel with Telkom or any other isp. We came to a conclusion here long time ago that broadband in SA is 1000% more expensive that in other countries. How much cheaper is Neotel compared to other ISPs? We being bull****ed here. Please Neotel pack your bags and go back to India or where ever you came from. We need real competition.
It does not mean if they a bit cheaper than others that its a good deal. People wake up.

Yeah..!!

Hell yeah! Party at Neofan's place!WhooHoo!

But I must say, they did say they will roll out in Pretoria, and my suburb is called Pretoria North, my suburb has Pretoria in it's name, and the closest connection is 12+km away...So I do feel I have the right to complain a bit;-) They never said they will partly roll out in Pretoria when they said Pretoria. But oh well. The internet on Vodacrap is so slow tonight...:-(

Oi! Seriously, calm down! I am upset as well, but just because you have been chasing Zimbabweans all day does not give you the right to judge the new service provider to the point where they should begone yet....hehe! Give them a chance to prove themselves...Sit down, sigh a disappointed sigh because they have not saved us from telscum yet, and watch and see what happens. In a years time if we are not better off, I will hand you the pitch fork myself;-P

Some Feedback from Neotel:

Dear Mr ************

Thank you for your email regarding your interest in our service.

We are currently limiting our service to Johannesburg and Pretoria, in order to ensure that we can focus on ensuring that the service offerings are aligned to the customer’s requirements. Nevertheless, as our business grows we will expand to different geographies including Durban. Can you kindly provide us with:

- Your full address (Province, Suburb, Street Name)
- contact details. (cell, home, office telephone no.’s)

We will then capture these details and then keep you informed when we are closer to rolling out our services in your area.

In response to your other questions, Neotel is currently investigating various additional device options and is likely to introduce such devices in the future.

We look forward to your continued support and patronage,

Kind regards

Subject: Unlimited package for R999
01. Is there availability in my area? I’m in ********, Durban
02. Does this include P2P
03. Is there an Ethernet option available as mainly require it to serve my pc’s on the home network.

Many thanks

Ok, they didnt answer my question about P2P but the bit i underlined is interesting!

Ok everyone incl Neotel keep on going on about a coverage map - I am yet to see one, and what about dates for rollouts in other centres ? This is the worst launch I have ever witnessed !

And just how many Telco launches have you witnessed? I think a lot of people in this thread actually have NO idea of what is actually involved in setting up a network like Neotel is doing. I was involved with a network upgrade of an existing global network of 260 or so branches of a bank. I was in the team doing the WAN side. Now there was no real design change just upgrades. And we found that as we upgraded certain links it added to traffic on what seemed to be completely unrelated links. Now Neotel is not only upgrading existing Transnet network and adding to it. They also have NO idea of what volume of traffic they will end up carrying. Can you imagine if they under guesstemate and have to dig up all the roads again in 5 years time. Hence the extra cables in the roads, 5 or 6 of them in fact for defined links. What they will do is turn on the network (locations) one at a time and monitor traffic. By doing this they will make more accurate guesstemates for parts of the network not yet turned on or cabled. This is one MONSTER of a project! I would love to be a fly on the wall in the planning department. :D

Is this gonna be wireless?

If you're gonna post without reading the article or the article thread first you don't deserve answer.

How can you compare your Telkom bill with the one from Neotel? They're selling two different products.

LOL WUT?

They are selling the same products. Just one is wireless while the other isn't.

who's comparing Neosell to Telscum? Good for them Both are proving useless and a let-down.

You seriously think the customer should care about any of this crap?
To me Neotel is not offering good value. They are offering "better than" value.
And being "better than" Telkom could describe anything from using carrier pigeons for data to taking hdd's in the car to a friends house.
And all the arguments "for" Neotel are the ones comparing them to Telkom.

They are selling the same products. Just one is wireless while the other isn't.

Exactly. Neotel does not have a mobile license. You can't move between base stations. Only the access part is wireless. In every other respect they are a fixed-line operator.

They must be compared with Telkom, not VC/MTN.

Well I called them this morning to ask a few questions. This is what I got out of 'em:

Fax facilities are not available on the current set of devices, but something is in the pipeline and will be available 'in the near future'. They also said that if I signed up with them, I would be eligible for such an upgrade without any hassle.

You can not use a standard (i.e cordless phone you may have) with their system. You can only use the device provided. (not good)

They also do not have coverage in my part of Sandton just yet.

Anyway, so I have a 'lead reference no.' and they will contact me with any updates...

I don't know about you guys, but this is not great for anyone wishing to use this as a standard telephony service. No fax, no cordless phones...?
